DD13 teenage spots

Hi hoping for some advice please

DD13 going through a very spotty stage. She started her periods recently and is extremely moody(!) so think her hormones are pretty all over the place.

Her spots started on her forehead but have spread to her cheeks and chin now and seem redder, beforehand they were more just like widespread tiny lumps under the skin.

She currently uses the Liz Earle regime with hot cloth cleanser, toner and light moisturiser and uses Freederm on the actual spots, at night.

Was thinking of upping the game to Dermalogica who do a teen range, or perhaps the Pro Active range advertises on tv? I use Paula's Choice and wondered if their Clear range would be too strong on young skin as there's AHA/BHA in there I think?

Any recommendations gratefully received!

Also, is the retinol any good? I've been umming whether to try it on some starter wrinkles

diamondsandrose · 11/10/2018 16:05

Yes retinol quite good but have you heard about the company closing down?!

I have had better results weirdly with Avon retinol, red and black double ended tube.

DD is an Avon rep and I've found myself strangely addicted!

I always tell this story on acne threads.
My ndn’s Son had terrible acne. She took him to a Chinese herbalist in a local town and he had 3 months of treatment. His skin was 95% improved( there was barely any Slin visible between the spots before treatment. )
If either of my kids go sporty, it’s the first thing il do.

Ohyesiam · 11/10/2018 16:09

Ha spotty not sporty!

Bacardibabe · 11/10/2018 16:15

Imo Liz Earle products can be quite harsh on young skin so I'd avoid it. Hard as it is have you tried suggesting she eats as little sugary products as possible as they dont help.

pumpastrotter · 11/10/2018 16:54

I've seen! but the owner is very erratic and prone to dramatics so I would take it with a pinch of salt right now. Revolution have released some dupes I may try if needs be

Desmondo2016 · 11/10/2018 16:58

It's hormonal acne, it will make little difference what you put on it or what sort she has. Those things can help cure the spots quicker but wont treat the root cause. Yasmin all the way. Me and my dd swear by it (I still use it in my 40s). I'm not sure how it feel about putting a young teenage daughter on the pill but believe me I have ruined years of my life worrying about acne so it be tempted to view it as a medication not a contraceptive and go for it anyway.

Desmondo2016 · 11/10/2018 16:58

That should read ' or what sort of diet she has'

Can anyone recommend something for my 10yo DD who is getting spots? She's quite tall and developed for her age. Looks a lot older. Hence the spots. I don't want to use anything too harsh on her skin though. She's also asking to wear makeup because she's self conscious. Again I don't want my 10yo wearing shitloads of makeup but maybe some kind of concealer? Any recommendations for her pls?

I would also recommend going to a dermatologist. I’ve just taken my 12 year old Ds2 to the same one we went to with dd1. He’s been put on a dab on antibiotic plus epiduo twice a week. Dd was put on tetracycline that was doubled after Yasmin made her spots much worse. Plus again Epiduo. You can really see the Epiduo working after one night on Ds. His nose looks much less congested.

Just back from the GP

Advice was cut down on sugar, up water fruit and veg intake , and prescribed Zinyert(?) to dab on

Have also purchased the face wash from amazon that was recommended up threat, began with a D ?

So new regime starts tonight!

Good advice Diamonds. Ds is on and it’s working well.

teta · 17/10/2018 10:27

Zineryt.

Day 3 and the combo is working wonders so far, even DH has noticed which is unusual

Great OP that there seems to be improvement already!

I was going to suggest what my dd13 uses....La Roche Posay Efflacur Duo....was recommended on here, if you search for this in threads there are so many recommendations. It has really sorted my dd's skin out and it is lovely and clear. She likes it as it sinks in so quickly and makes her skin soft too.

diamondsandrose · 19/10/2018 23:18

Sounds good thanks for the suggestion

The.only problem now is that she's looking quite red , wondering if the combo of both new products is too much and to drop the Quinoderm

Not Liz Earle for acne - too rich and contains essential oils which are irritating.

Instead trip to GPs for some prescription medication/topicals (and referral to dermatologist if not working), alongside a gentle skincare regime of cleanser (cerave, LRP) and moisturiser (LRP).

Also if any of your children are struggling with peeling etc from acne topicals use LRP cicaplast alongside as it will really help the barrier function of the skin to be able to cope.

namechangedcausebored · 09/11/2018 10:10

How is the regime working out op?

Bebe03 · 09/11/2018 10:39

Also recommend roche de posay anti blemish system- google it to see the incredible results people have. Often on offer in boots, simple to use & doesn’t dry out skin..

Sorry a bit late to the thread, Im 35 and have had acne since I was 12. You name the face wash/ cleanser I’ve tried it all over the years. The past year, I started to use Superdrug vitamin e cleansing oil ( very skeptical about trying an oil) was also prescribed zineryt, touch wood- my skin is better than it has been in years, hope your daughter is doing ok x
