Help with finding a foundation

I'm 41 and only now getting into make up. I've always liked the stuff just never been very good at buying, applying or using it all. I really want some ideas about a decent foundation. One which doesn't look powdery or flakey when on. I have combination skin and roseaca on my cheeks. I love the dewy, natural looks but i just don't know where to start. Any hint's, tips or words of advice will be gratefully received.

Go for serum type foundations if you want it moisturising and not flaky.

L'Oréal true match one is good as well as The Ordinary Serum foundation in the cheaper selection.

MAC studio fix gel foundation is very moisturising but a little pricier. It gives a very dewy look.

I have also heard Urban Decay foundation is pretty good. Can't remember what it's called , Naked or Skin something like that.

Most places will consider your skin type before suggesting any. Ask for dewy finish foundation.

estée lauder double wear - quite expensive, but my mum has roseaca and that is the only foundation she’s found that evens it out. green concealer can also be used to counteract redness.

I love the Ordinary Serum foundation, it is highly pigmented so one drop does the whole face, took me a few attempts to get the right colour when ordering online but defiantly worth the effort.

I really rate Beauty Pie serum foundation. I have a bit of roseaca and was surprised it covered it. It costs about 6.50 (exact cost depends on shade) but you need to join and pay 10.00 pm to buy and postage. Nice dewey finish.

I find that a tinted moisturiser/BB cream is more flattering on skin as we get a bit older.

Laura Mercier is lovely - it is pricey but it lasts a long time.

Go to Debenhams beauty counters and get as much matching samples as you can. Tell them what type of skin you have and they will work out the right foundation and colour. You usually get enough to last a week or so. Then try them out at home. I always find that no matter how nice the foundation looks in store the true test is being applied at home under natural light, how long it lasts on my skin (I have oily skin so it might look great on application but 4/8 hours later is what I need to know) and how my skin reacts to it (many foundations break me out in spots). None of that can be answered by trying on in a shop over a couple of minutes.
