Hello everyone! I need your help… Halo Halo Halo I'm a student studying Fashion Buying and Brand Management at Ravensbourne University in London. For my final major project I have to find a gap in the market and take a business from start to finish (I have around 8 months to work on this). I have always been passionate about childrenswear and would love to create something new, exciting and inclusive.

Some ideas that I have come up with involve matching/complimenting accessories and clothes for children in wheelchairs, easy dressing and unisex clothing brands and a "build your own wardrobe" website and store where the children can choose their ideal clothes (we all know how annoying it is when you buy your child some beautiful new clothes and they point black refuse to wear it hahaha!)

*What are some problems you've experienced/things you wish existed within the childrenswear market? Any help is so so so appreciated!

Trousers with buttons that little hands cannot undo when they need a wee! Elasticated waists or poppers all the way for my as! Small buttons in general that prevent small person from dressing/ undressing themselves! Basically, I’m obvs a lazy parent- but anything that makes it easier- my daughter has some dresses that I can’t even manage to do the buttons up on as they are so small and fiddly!!

If you want inclusive as you say you do, put buttons all the way down the back of dresses/ tops for SN kids. Really difficult to get them dressed otherwise

Good luck with your project, I ❤️ your idea!

Is this because some kids don't like buttons? Because I was going to say the opposite, don't have buttons down the back of dresses and tops because it means girls/women can't dress themselves. Buttons are a feminist issue! Oh, also, useful pockets in girls clothes and warm girls clothes.

No it's because some kids have zero tone and can't sit, eat, see, hear, talk or walk. I don't think they give a fuck about feminism.

For my kids an option for no fastenings (stretchy material?) would be fantastic. Seams as flat as possible.
I would love to have a uk version if primary.com
Classic styles, mostly unisex and very easy to mix and match (if you shop by colour it recommends other colours that go well with it so easy to build a capsule wardrobe)

I'm a fan of unisex clothes like Polarn O Pyret make and as is popular in Scandinavia. More gender neutral and easier to use as hand me downs.

I think that's a bit of an over reaction to my question. You didn't specify what kind of SN kids but I knew a few kids on the spectrum who won't wear buttons so was aware they could be an issue.

Boys clothes that aren't dull, grey/black,m and branded with words like 'rebel' and 'mischief'. Colour for boys!!

StarfishSandwich · 09/10/2018 08:16

Yes colour for boys! Not just pale blue and grey! I really love Little Green Radicals stuff but it’s way out of my price range. Affordable, colourful and ideally ethical clothing would be amazing.
