Would you/ do you travel 50 miles for a great hairdresser?

I have thick wavy kinky hair and struggle to find someone who understand it and can give me a good cut. My friend recommended me her hairdresser who is 50 miles away - a 100 mile round trip. I've been a few times and really liked him and what he did to my hair, he is one of the few hairdressers who "gets" my hair and has a real creative instinct. BUT I feel guilty about going that far and keep trying to find a good local hairdresser - so far unsuccessfully.

I'm at that stage of having almost grown out a pixie done by someone else, who left me with a uneven cut, of thinking of booking an appointment soonish and debating with myself whether to do the journey to the faraway or keep looking for one near me. When I go the the faraway hairdresser I try to combine it with an afternoon in the nearby city centre mooching round the shops etc.

I can't help wondering if I'm too fussy and should just go to a local hairdresser

I'd try other local ones but if I didn't find anyone who lived up to his standards then yes I would travel that far.

Its all personal preference though, I take a lot of pride in my hair and its something everyone can always see. Others don't care about their hair as much and that's fine that their preference. It just depends how much you care about your hair I suppose!

I drive 90 Grin
I do live in the sticks though
But nothing, nothing beats a good haircut, you wear it every day.

I drive the 100-mile round trip to my hairdresser for exactly the same reason as the OP. Curly hair needs a cutter that shares your vision of you, with the skill to execute it superbly. And, it's worth it; as Rick says, you wear your hair every day.

I travel 90 miles to see my hairdresser (and another 90 back). I trust him and he has cut it for over twenty years. Totally worth it ( and there’s a good discount shopping place nearby I can pop to) Grin

I live in the sticks too and drive a considerable distance to mine and have done so for the last 12 years. When you are happy with a hairstylist it’s hard to trust or even find another that’s as good.

Great!! I think you've all convinced. As you say, I wear my hair everyday. It's one of my few luxuries too. I'll stop feeling guilty about it
Thanks

I used to see my mother's hairdresser in Ayr. I lived in Portsmouth at the time. Google tells me that's 453 miles. Grin

I used to coincide cuts with visits to my parents at Christmas, so literally only had my hair cut once it twice a year for about a decade, as I only ever flew up that often. He was amazing, but he's left the industry now to go into interior design 😭😭😭😭

Absolutely do the travel!

I have curly hair and have only just found somebody an hour's drive from me...SO worth it.

Bubblysqueak · 06/10/2018 19:33

My hair dresser is 35 miles away so 70 mile round trip. Definitely worth it.

I miss my old hairdresser so much I'm tempted to get on a plane to get my hair highlighted by her!
