Sheet Masks: Worth it or waste of time?

AhoyDelBoy · 05/10/2018 10:30

I used my first sheet mask today, albeit just a Garnier one from the supermarket, after reading about them on here. My skin definitely feels softer but that’s about it.

There seemed to be a lot of excess product on the mask when I took it off and I’m not too keen on the single-use nature of the product. They also seem cheap but I feel they could be a false economy?

Has anybody had standout results with these and which ones would you recommend or have you found them to be a waste of time?

Like you I found them to be a bit wasteful only being single use and more product than needed really. I won't use them day to day as I'd rather just use a mask from a pot. I might however use one on a flight as air con on planes can be quite drying and the single use sachet would be allowed in the liquid allowance.

I bought one from Primark and found it quite good. I think it was only £1/£1.50. I think the best thing to is use it at night and rub the excess into your skin before bed.

TantricTwist · 05/10/2018 13:34

I find a hydrating sheet mask very worthwhile for the occasional times my skin is looking and feeling very hydrated which is once every couple of months or so.

I did buy ages ago some plain sheet masks which you can infuse with your own serums etc but to be honest I prefer the normal ready made up ones.

*dehydrated

I like the Korean ones

AhoyDelBoy · 09/10/2018 02:33

I’ve ordered some from Go-To skincare, I hope they’re worth it Smile

I love the primark ones. My skin has gone from oily to dry, or maybe combination since menopause. I used to buy from Korea but they were expensive. I put one on every Sunday evening. Lovely !

penisbeakers · 09/10/2018 04:04

I use Korean snail secretion masks. They're amazing.

Delatron · 09/10/2018 08:04

What is the brand of the Korean masks and where do you buy them? Thanks

AhoyDelBoy · 09/10/2018 08:15

Can you imagine sitting next to someone on a plane who was wearing a mask. It would freak thr shit out of me dozing off and seeing that on waking. Lol

wizzywig · 09/10/2018 09:31

What i like is that it forces you to stop and lie down for 15mins. No phone, nothing.

LemonysSnicket · 09/10/2018 09:49

Worth it, they work very well on dry skin and are replenishing and brightening unlike a lot of drying masks.

LemonysSnicket · 09/10/2018 09:50

And you're meant to rub the excess serum onto he face after removing the mask

AhoyDelBoy · 09/10/2018 10:47

Yes @LemonysSnicket there’s no way I’d wash my face after. I rubbed the excess in Smile can’t wait to try my Go-To ones.

Boots hydrating sheet masks are wonderful for dehydrated skin

JMAngel1 · 09/10/2018 16:59

I just started using them and they are amazing - I have used two different ones from Mizon - a collagen and a peptide one with funny names like Lift up Your Face - they are so saturated with essence that I have used each one 3 times and even after that squeezed essence out of it for my crepey under eyes - really good and face definitely more plump and bouncy.

JingsMahBucket · 10/10/2018 07:47

Do you all wash your face before putting on the sheet masks? If so, does your face still feel super hydrated? I’m thinking about doing them in the evening after a long day at work or running errands, etc.

AhoyDelBoy · 10/10/2018 09:53

Yes wash face beforehand Smile

dangerdestroy · 10/10/2018 09:59

Are they biodegradeable?

JingsMahBucket · 10/10/2018 10:53

@AhoyDelBoy thank you. :)

I bought some of the paper. Asks from muji. They haven't got any serum in and are a little like pellets. Then when I use a sheet mask, I squeeze it lightly before I put it on and pop a muji mask in to soak up the essence left in the sachet.
I can then use it the next night or a few days later. An Ikea clip stops the sachet from drying out.

Their also good for just soaking in a bit of serum and they're really cheap.

AhoyDelBoy · 10/10/2018 11:33

Great tip @Babysharkdoodoodoodo. I think I’ll do that with the ones I have coming as they were quite pricey Shock

I used Skinfood's birds nest sheet mask on Sunday, and my skin is still soft, smooth and plump (ish).

It was the thickest, most hydrating mask I've used so far, and my skin was extremely soft afterwards.
I usually use Hada labo masks, and still love those, but the price jumped on Amazon, so stopped buying them.

I double cleanse as usual, layer my serums, then apply the mask.
I use for around 20-30 minutes each time.
After rubbing the excess into my skin, I usually apply my retinal serum, then an oil.

My skin is ultra soft in the morning, and any rough, dry, flaky areas are gone. I also find spots heal faster too.

I love sheet masks, and was sceptical until I tried them. Not anymore!

AhoyDelBoy · 11/10/2018 02:44

Wow @Beautifullymixed that’s quite a regime Shock can I ask why you apply serums etc then the mask? @dangerdrstroy I don’t know tbh
