Are these fit flops super ugly?

So, I walk quite a lot during the day (although desk job), and am getting sick of having uncomfortable feet and calves and getting hard skin...

I would love very stylish loafers that also felt like walking on clouds. Is this possible?

The closest I seem to be able to get is this - have been wondering about fit flops recently...

Do they just scream ‘I have given up on life’?

Context: I am a civil servant but in a fairly smart job.

I'm sorry... Have you looked at Geox or Ecco?

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 03/10/2018 16:18

Ummm... It's a no from me, sorry, and I'm fairly frumpy keen on comfort. I don't think that the thicker/shaped sole is necessarily going to stop you getting hard skin etc? Would look for something comfy with a more conventional width sole personally. M & S maybe?

FekkoTheLawyer · 03/10/2018 16:19

I'm sorry... Have you looked at Geox or Ecco?

Flippetydip · 03/10/2018 16:25

I have a pair and they are not that comfortable as the sizing is somewhat askew, which I didn't realise until I started walking a bit further in them. Disastrous purchase and would never buy again.

Bluntness100 · 03/10/2018 16:25

Yeah, I'm sorry but they really are as frumpy as it gets.

evilharpy · 03/10/2018 18:15

I’m thinking of the most stylish people I know and trying to picture them wearing these and making them look nice... nope. Sorry.

babswindsor · 03/10/2018 18:20

I am a right old dear but even I wouldn't wear them! sorry.

Clockwork95 · 03/10/2018 18:42

I think they are a bit too far on the frumpy side, sorry.

Could you just go for plain brogues from somewhere like clarks or m and s? Still comfortable and practical but with a normal sole?

Like this maybe? www.clarks.co.uk/c/Netley-Rose/p/26128521

DeusEx · 03/10/2018 21:36

Ah. Thank you kind people of Mumsnet for confirming my fears. Sigh.

Geox and Ecco - shall investigate. Any particular style recommendations?

M and S shoes never fit right on me - I have tried and failed so many times, it isn’t worth it for me.

They are super ugly - sorry. I seem to have plantar fascitis (sp) and have sorted it to a large extent by owning an ugly pair of Skechers flip flops that I wear around the house all the time from the second I get out of bed including going to the loo in the night! It's really helped - I can wear normal shoes during the day.

polyhymnia · 03/10/2018 22:46

If you want stylish loafers, I recommend Russell and Bromley. Not cheap but worth it. Geox have some good flats too. Have worn lots of both in my former civil service career.

polyhymnia · 03/10/2018 22:47

PS - totally agree with OP on M and S. Don’t find them very stylish and not comfortable on me.

FekkoTheLawyer · 05/10/2018 17:24

📢 fit flops have ballet pumps!!!!🎉🎉🎉

Racecardriver · 05/10/2018 17:35

I just got my first pair today. They are the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. Super light and super supportive.

These ones

dinosaurkisses · 05/10/2018 17:40

Have you thought about looking into proper insoles which help the problem, but you could move them from stylish shoe to stylish shoe?

Two of my friends have done this with success and not a FitFlop in sight.

FekkoTheLawyer · 05/10/2018 17:48

Ah like orthotics? Proper ones are expensive but really worth it. You can buy ones in Boots but they are (obviously) not fitted to your foot. You need to wear 'sensible' shoes with them though.

DeusEx · 05/10/2018 22:02

Surely if they’re good enough for Uma Thurman?!

Damn it, marketing.

OP posts:
ileclerc · 05/10/2018 22:21

Oh goodness, they're horrendous!

MrsChollySawcutt · 05/10/2018 22:36

Nope, I'm all for comfort over style but I wouldn't wear those.

I live in Gabor shoes for work. Smart but super comfortable.

Waxlyrically · 06/10/2018 09:17

Going against the grain here but I have some similar ones and they are so comfortable I love them. I wear mine with thick black tights and above the knee skater type dresses. I think I look ok - but perhaps my work colleagues are secretly horrified by my fashion choices!

nothingwittyhere · 06/10/2018 10:08

I'd try Ecco or Clarks Unstructured. The latter seem to have more streamlined styles this autumn than previously. Eg:

Cumbrianlass66 · 07/10/2018 20:33

Waxlyrically - I have a friend whose very glam and young for her age but she has to have comfortable shoes. She has some plain black fit floo loafers and they look great with brightly coloured White Stuff or Monsoon dresses and tights.
