Anyone wear their hair up day to day?

In a style, rather than a bobble or claw clip iyswim? I'd like to start wearing my long hair up but I'm quite ham-fisted and my hair is slippery. I wish I could naturally achieve proper, elegant styles like a chingnon or a French roll. Has anyone managed to find a doable style that looks nicely arranged rather than shoved up? Thanks

Yes me 😀

I do a kind of a Greek roll I call it. A thin headband and wind my hair around it.

Kind of like this but I have the front of the headband in my hair. It’s so easy and takes literally seconds.

I also have a donut for a bun that you put your hair round.

And a messy bun scrunchie (google it) that cost a fiver.

Other people might think I look shit but I like them. 😂

The trick to styling slippery hair is for it not to be freshly washed.

A bun or a chignon is much, much easier on day old hair.

I wear my hair up in a bun quite regularly for work. The hair pins are critical Kirby grips alone won’t do, you need old fashioned long V shaped pins to secure your hair.

There are lots of You tube videos with demonstrations.

Dry shampoo or sea salt spray is essential for me. I have otter hair.

Yes, I normally wear my hair in a french pleat secured with a beak clip. I have lots of fine hair, but with a strong clip it stays in place nicely.
When I want to look posher I do a bun with a doughnut, either high on my head or with a small one low to one side

I'm properly ham fisted too and have just started trying to find ways to do something nice with my hair. I'm fed up of feeling like I can't do all this 'girly stuff' right!
Try having a look at The Small Things blog. She has some really helpful step by step hair tutorials - she has straight hair that needs help to hold up too (she uses dry shampoo or texturising spray).

Usually volume dry hair shampoo makes hair so much less slippery. It gives it texture and styles hold really well.

I did when I had long hair - mostly a ponytail then bun or a plaited bun. I found a kind of hairpin that worked much better than traditional ones - like a DNA spiral, so you twist it into your hair and it doesn't fall out. They used to sell them in Boots.

Yes - I do a slightly undone bun, either low or high. I just use a snag free elastic that I keep the ends folded into, then dry backcomb spray, tail comb and kirby grips and pins. Sounds like a faff but takes about 3 minutes. I'm going to look at some of these other ideas now ...

Thanks very much for these ideas. Unfortunately, my hair is just lank on non-washed days, so rather than having more grip, it just hangs flatter and looks greasy. I'm gonna try leaving off conditioner and try spraying some volumising stuff through it to give it some texture before I attempt anything updo-wise.
