Are these worth investing in and which one do you recommend?

I have 2 dds who will soon be entering the realm of hair removal and thought this might be good for them too. Can more than one person use the same machine?

There are some old threads about this but none very recent. Advice would be gratefully received.

Reviews are varied with some people loving them and others saying it didn't work?

How old are your daughters? I would have thought that there would be a minimum age recommendation on them.

loubielou31 · 28/09/2018 18:29

Well if I am honest the daughters are just an excuse to justify the cost. Wink

I've got quite an old one (about 3-4 years old), it was the Boots own brand. I've got the right colouring - dark hair, pale skin (in winter) - and it's worked really well for me. I treated legs, bikini, underarm and upper lip, and all responded brilliantly. I've not used it now for at least 2 years, but I have hardly any regrowth - shave my legs and armpits maybe once every couple of weeks if that (maybe once a week in summer). The hair here is really patchy, not very noticeable. Upper lip and bikini have remained largely hair free.

It's been great for me, highly recommended.

Thanks Carrie

They definitely work! Consistency is key and it takes a while - 2 hours for me to do armpits, belly, bikini and legs in total

I have the corded Philips Lumea and it's so worth it as you don't have to stop to recharge otherwise add another 1hr30 to that!

You have to do it every two weeks for 8 weeks (so 4 sessions) then you can move it down to monthly. I can't remember the last time I shaved my legs and even though there is regrowth it's pale and unnoticeable. My natural hair is very dark and I have pale skin, so ideal candidate.

I'd recommend one especially if there's a few of you - no more 5 o clock shadow ha!

Watching this thread with interest! May I ask - is it painful?!

Nelumbo · 02/10/2018 09:11

I have the Philips lumea, it has worked fantastic on my legs, but not so great on underarm hair but I'm going to persist.

gotthearse · 08/10/2018 20:28

I have a lumea, on my third two weekly treatment and already have way less hair. Used it on legs, foof, belly and underarms. Have the odd more stubborn patch but it's really good. I do have fair skin and brown hair which helps a lot. Its only painful if you miss a bit shaving or waxing beforehand as it will singe the hair left. Dd is desperate to use it, she's never shaved and I too bought it with her in mind so she won't have to really get into the whole shaving bollox. Takes me 10-15 min per leg, pits and parts much quicker. They say not intended for under 15's in the book, but I am happy to try it on Dd if we patch test her first and its only used with me supervising. Boots and Amazon do good deals where they are sub £300, so worth holding out. I got a ton of boots points too when I bought mine on offer.

Does it hurt

ViserionTheDragon · 08/10/2018 23:43

Another vote for Phillips Lumea.

Sparklytori · 09/10/2018 06:20

Very interested.... can I ask too does it hurt as I am a scardy cat!,

BeeMyBaby · 09/10/2018 06:40

I have the smooth skin gold which is a lesser known brand but boasts that it is the most effective I believe. It's great, I used to have actual beard stubble and felt awful about myself and now I just feel so much happier with no dark hairs on my face or under my arms (I was always a bit worried about doing my belly but after reading this thread I think I will start). It doesn't hurt unless you accidentally do the same patch twice, and if it is a bit stingy then you can set it on a gentler mode although I've never needed to do this. Unlike salon versions, no gel is required. I'm planning on using it on my daughter when she is older and self conscious about her hair as she is furry like me. I actually felt very guilty that I had passed on my fuzzy genes to her but now I have this to use on her I feel much better and like she will be able to be much more confident than I was.

Methe · 09/10/2018 06:46

Mine changed my life! It doesn’t hurt at all.

loubielou31 · 11/10/2018 00:26

Do you think it's less effective on underarm hair because that is thicker hair but with repeated treatments that will improve? It's things like as I get older the hair on my lip is becoming much more noticeable, and the hairs on my upper legs are just becoming more wiry. I think I will hope that one comes up on a black Friday or similar.

Its been great all over tbh, pits just as good as everywhere else, I'm a def convert. My stubbly legs always had a shadow or bumps, now they are lovely and soft and smooth...
