I've never owned expensive/quality eyeshadow. What should I buy?

Just that. My favourite MaxFactor liquid eyeshadown is increasingly harder to find, I'm nearly 37 and I pay out for good quality stuff for everything else, why not eyeshadow?

What should be my first purchase?

I find that silvers/greys/blues suit me best. (This is partly why I haven't bothered, I struggle to find pallets where I feel like I'd use the colours)

Clinique do a lovely quad set in various colours (with a handy picture that tells you what to apply where - thought it was patronising at first but it's actually spot on).

Very good quality too - I use with their touch base for eyes underneath. Makes it look like I've put way more effort into my appearance than I actually have!

I really like Too Faced and Tarte eyeshadows, creamy and blend well.

So many I've never heard of!

Love the colours in Huda, and also loving the YSL and Clinique so far. A bit Shock at the prices! Good job it's my birthday soon Wink

Meh, I've traded down recently!

Most of my make up now comes from NYX which is a third of the price of anything I've bought in the last decade, and better than any of it. Well worth a look at their stuff. Usually a good counter in Boots.

I like a smoky eye and buy Bourgois pallettes. I don’t suit pinky browns or rust colours but I can wear dark brown. Last time I tried a pinky brown my son wanted to take me to A&E as he was convinced I was sick.

The l'oreal single ones are really good. Also sleek palettes.

Sorry I was in a rush earlier. If you don't want the warm shades then my other favourites are Dior shadows. Lovely texture and s huge variety of colours.

CremeDeSudo · 29/09/2018 02:14

Bloody he'll a lot of these are 40,50quid...are they really worth it? Do any brands do samples?

I usually ask to have make up applied at the counter, and see how it feels on. That how I ended up with NYX products over fancier brands this time. I agree not all of it is great, I'm picking and choosing.

Another vote for Urban Decay. I adore mine.

Interestingly it's made me understand the value of a good eye shadow applicator brush. It's so much easier to get a good look with a decent brush and blender thingy.

I like Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerise, they come in various colours and are individual pots.

Violetroselily · 29/09/2018 13:07

I'm currently umming and ahhing over the new CT palette

www.charlottetilbury.com/uk/stars-in-your-eyes-eyeshadow-palette.html

I have one of her quads which I like, but equally I have umpteen Revolution palettes which look just as good.

Interesting that eyeshadow is one thing that alot of people go cheap for, compared to other items
