I went to see a personal shopper today

It was House of Fraser. I can't overstate how fantastic it was. I spent just under £700 (I had been saving for this - I have no clothes that fit/flatter/go with eachother and needed a complete wardrobe overhaul) and came away with loads & loads of stuff including trousers that make my legs look thin (well, thinish, all things are relative).
I cried in the car going home (with overwhelmedness), like those women on Trinny & Suzannah.
There is no minimum spend. There is no hard sell.
I don't work for House of Fraser.
I am completely unbiased.
I am also 43 and just gobsmacked that its taken me this long to find out about personal shopper services.
We all owe it to ourselves to go to one at least once in our lives!

Am thinking of doing this. I need a new wardrobe! How long were you there for?

MrsSpoon · 11/06/2007 20:35

Wow, would love to do this, sounds fab! The problem for me is having the self-control to stop spending and save up a decent amount of money to make the whole exercise worth while.

i intend doing something like this before xmas - any tips?

I agree it sounds fantastic. But I couldn't imagine spending £700 on me. What do you think is the minimum you could show up with?

pollypeachum · 11/06/2007 22:02

I think the minimum could be a lot less. Honestly, no hard sell.
My only tip is to be absolutely firm in your mind about your budget - my lady added things up to let me know how I was doing and whether I could afford to add/had to take bits away.
I'm blown away by how much I've got for the money. Had I tried to buy it for myself it could have cost me so much more in bad buys along the way.
Having the objective eye is so helpful - she could see what fitted and, more importantly, the things that almost flattered but didn't do so enough and could be bettered (she found the better bits).

I need this lady. I went out to buy a top today to wear Friday night. Came home with two pairs of shorts for DS, three tops for DD and a packet of mint imperials for the car (well for me but it hardly counts does it).

I am rubbish at choosing clothes. I wanna go waaaaah.

Oh and good for you polly!

TheDaVinciCod · 12/06/2007 19:33

pomg how cool

NoodleStroodle · 12/06/2007 19:37

Ooo I want to do this too.
I wear the same things again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again
