Recommendations for fake tan that isn’t orange!

AhoyDelBoy · 27/09/2018 06:48

I’m looking to delve into the world of fake tan, having never used it before. However, I DO NOT want that tacky/cheap, orange look. Any recommendations for a good quality product that is easy to apply?

I'm a die hard st tropez user having used anything and everything. It ia yellow based and never ever yellow (I'm quite pale) & lasts a week or more. HOWEVER I have recently tried Bondi Sands mousse (in the light shade) and I was so impressed. It is super natural and moisturising. It doesnt last as long as st tropez but I did zero prep and I had no streaking whatsoever.

Elledorado · 27/09/2018 13:05

Ugh typos ^ the st tropez is never ORANGE. I would buy some cheap latex gloves to apply and try the bondi mousse to start with though

MissWimpyDimple · 27/09/2018 13:10

Skinny tan seems to work for me and not be orange.

GVmama · 27/09/2018 13:12

I'm v pale and I've used Saint Tropez too and I've always had good results. My sister, who is similarly pale uses Bondai sands and the colour is great on her.
This summer I've just used a face moisturiser with a hint of tan (Olay Sunshine) and the Garnier Summer Body cream, which both give a hint of colour to make me look more human without needing to prep the skin or spend too much time on it. I would try that first, then go full on into fake tan if the colour isn't deep enough.
If you have spare cash, or just want to tan for a one-off event then you could consider a spray tan as they always give me the deepest tan with the most even coverage.

I'm the same as Elle always used st tropez which is excellent. I have red tone hair and am very pal.
Also tried Bondi beach gradual tan this summer and was very impressed.

Another vote for St tropez here. I've used it for years and never had the orange look or any streaks. I apply using a tan mitt.

oakthorn · 27/09/2018 13:15

Another Bondi sands convert here . Love the gradual tan mousse

RayM · 27/09/2018 14:40

Bondi sands convert here too. LOVE the colour.

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/09/2018 16:39

If it goes orange the concentration of DHA is too high for your colouring and you need a weaker one.

MrsPob · 27/09/2018 19:42

Another Bondi Sands fan over here! Love the light gradual tan.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/09/2018 20:10

DD likes Isle of Paradise in Light (she has the mousse)
Not streaky, has a guide colour , lasts well.

(At the moment she's flaunting her real tan from Turkey)

Fstar · 27/09/2018 20:59

Im very fair skinned and bought the isle of paradise mouse, works really well and doesnt look fake when on

PatMullins · 27/09/2018 21:00

Bondi Sands here too

EscapeToTheMoon · 27/09/2018 21:08

Cocoa Brown, available in Superdrug and Primark.

beanaseireann · 27/09/2018 21:13

I don't like Cocoa Brown.
I use the Rimmel Mousse

AhoyDelBoy · 27/09/2018 21:29

Might give St Tropez or Bondi Sands a go Smile

I've tried them all apart from bondi (will be trying it now) and skinny tan is best I've found. Very natural and gives you a glow. Vinyl gloves. Get them near the rubber gloves in Sainsbury's

LanaorAna2 · 27/09/2018 22:59

Fake bake amplify is v weak and ideal for blue-skinned ladies such as myself.

Elledorado · 28/09/2018 00:51

Fluffy is that right? I thought they had different undertones (yellow, green, orange or whatever) that worked on different skin tones. Ive had some go streaky and orange even in the light shades

ImNotReallyAWaitress · 28/09/2018 01:06

The newer St Tropez Purity tanning mousse is fab.

Gave a really lovely golden tan without being obviously fake orange, didn’t stink of old biscuits either.

Fluffycloudland77 · 28/09/2018 07:08

Yes Elledorado. DHA is clear. The green/violet/red bases are to try and influence the colour but experienced spray tanners can buy clear solution.

AhoyDelBoy · 28/09/2018 07:16

I was just at the supermarket so picked up some of the Bondi Sands liquid gold dry oil and an application mitt. It was quite a bit cheaper than the St Tropez products so thought I’d start with that. Le Tan had some mousse products with different base colours.

@70isaLimitNotaTarget jealous of your DDs real tan Grin I’m in Australia so you’d think I’d be tanned but no such luck Confused

Well it’s definitely not orange, it’s not really anything Confused
I was put off by the products that said ‘ultra dark’ but I think I need something with a bit more ‘omph’ next time.
Can you tell what leg I’ve done? Hmm
