Specs wearer contacts for special event avoiding small piggy eye look

I wear glasses Varifocals almost every waking hour as I am 53 and blind as a 🦇. I have worn contacts in the past and I am wondering whether to book a trial and wear them for a special event coming up this weekend. I am used to my glasses for every day but I hate glasses on photos especially when dressed up for something special and if I get warm they often steam up lol. I am wondering whether to try and ditch my specs for a special weekend away (obv I would take my specs incase if any problems) but because I wear specs all the time my eyes look small and piggy without them so wondering if anyone has any top tips to avoid this would maybe false eyelashes help, wearing the contacts say 24 hours before to give my eyes a chance to adjust more or wearing more eye make up (I rarely wear any)? Thanks

Fake lashes help! Also extra make up.

You might find your eyes look small sans glasses and contacts because you’re having to squint. This won’t be the case when you get your contacts in. I ear contacts sometimes and people always say how big my eyes are. Book in!

I think it is probably in your head that they look small and piggy because you are used to seeing them behind glasses.

If you have your prescription and have worn them before you could order some daily disposables on line as a once off. Would they have to be vaifocals? as they might be trickier to use.

My concern on overdoing the eye make up is that your eyes might feel dry and itchy and you might rub them.

I wear glasses too, and when I wear contacts, I feel like I need a bit more makeup.

I think it's a matter of having glasses that frame the eyes and without them, suddenly our eyes just seem smaller than what we're used to.

Curling lashes, tightlining and using mascara helps a lot IMO. Fake lashes can help too, but there's a fine line between fantastic fake lashes and too long caricature lashes. I recommend individual lashes, rather than strip lashes as they seem far more natural IMO.

Specsavers do a free weeks trial for disposable lenses, I tried and was hooked. I have varifocal contacts and love them. I just put a bit of mascara on.

Thanks all with glasses I don’t usually bother with eye make up I don’t wear much on an everyday basis and my perscription is so bad my eyes look quite big.
When I wore contacts previously 2-3 years ago I wore the ones you could sleep in for 28 days. But eventually stopped due to a painful eye infection on holiday this would be after 3-4 years. I will look into specsavers and think my previous optician would happily do a weeks trial but they were pricey. I might get my eyelashes dyed and will do eye makeup.

I looked at some makeup tutorials on YouTube for making your eyes look bigger re use of eye shadow and it does work. I also use contacts and glasses so it has to be different looks. It’s amazing how different you can actually make your eyes look relatively easily with makeup.

I better get googling

I'd get daily disposables- I used to wear then 14 day ones and would always get infections and the optometrst said dailies are much more hygenic. I have the opposite prob, my glasses prescrip makes my eyes look tiny so contacts suddenly make them very "there". I'd say eyeliner and mascara on top lashes, and lightly define your eyebrows

Cumbrianlass66 · 27/09/2018 07:19

I totally agree dailies would be much more hygienic the attraction with the sleep in ones for me was because it took me so long to put them in and take them out due to my bad eyes kept dropping them and have an aversion to touching my eyes and eyeballs so the monthly faff was preferable to the daily faff. I had a rubbish sleep last night see how tiny and piggy my eyes are also one definitely looks bigger than the other maybe I should stick with glasses.

Your eyes are fine! I would get contacts and book into a make up artist to do your face for the night - you will not look back
