Never going to have an uninterrupted nights sleep again. How can I avoid looking like a ballsack?

For various reasons (DH's working hours and a noisy dog), I'm looking at the next ten years of disturbed/bitty sleep. Don't get me wrong it's completely fine compared to what some people get because I'm still getting a lot of hours of sleep, it's just a bit chunky.

Anyway, I want to make sure this doesn't get etched on to my face. I am prone to dark circles under my eyes and hormonal acne but, otherwise, my skin's alright.

I drink lots of water, I don't smoke, I don't drink much alcohol, I exercise most days,I use sun screen.

What else can I do (especially around the eyes) to make sure I don't end up looking like shit?

I'm a bit reluctant to tinker too much or try too many new products because my skin can get a bit oily and irritated.

Any suggestions very gratefully received Grin

Make sure you are wearing colours and shapes that suit you? Maybe have your colours done or do a personal style thing at a department store. I think wearing clothes that really suit you makes more difference than things you do to your face, especially to other people - you notice your face blemishes much more than anyone else does.

Good point, I do try and do this. I've recently had a good clear out of my wardrobe and got rid of all the stuff I was "meh" about so I think everything I've held on to suits me well Smile

I also heed the advice about nails painted, hair looking good etc.

I'm just worried my face is going to turn into Gordon Ramsey.

You need to train yourself not to be disturbed by your DH's hours. Mine gets up at 4am frequency, but not on a regular pattern. I've trained myself not to wake up. It took a while.

MKDons · 26/09/2018 13:37

How do you train yourself not to be disturbed by it?

It's not just DH coming in in the middle of the night. I also have a dog who starts whining to come upstairs into bed with us at about 5am and there's no way I can train myself to not hear that - she's bloody deafening Grin

I wish I had the answer to this!! Two small nocturnal kiddos, DH shift work and on call when he is here also same problem with dog over here too!
I’m sure I’ll never train myself to not wake up, I’m a light sleeper.
But I am trying really hard to go to bed earlier, I used to sit up until late once kids were asleep determined to have some ‘me time’ but it just made mornings harder and days longer! I am aiming to go to bed 9:30/10:00 It makes the world of difference but I still hate going to bed early! Getting into a routine is key apparently...so I’m giving it ago!
If you can sleep with headphones in (I can’t-hubby can) then Bose noise cancelling headphones really are amazing at blocking everything out. Have used them to try and have naps when he’s about but I just can’t sleep through music! Hope you manage to get some more sleep soon!

I've had broken sleep for nearly 4 years now and definitely look like a ball sack.

MKDons · 26/09/2018 15:07

I've always been a big fan of early nights so I'm in bed by about 9:30pm or 10pm most nights anyway.

I have a chronic illness and a child who didn’t sleep through the night until she was in Year 3!

Nars Radiant concealer is brilliant as soon as you find the perfect colour. Put a dab on your hand and stipple it on with a foundation brush.

MM18 · 26/09/2018 15:10

Blusher is essential for not looking like a corpse. I use a cream one from M&S which I just smear on with my finger.

Upslidedown · 26/09/2018 17:39

Glow15 by Naomi Whittel (it's £3 on Amazon) is a really interesting read and after a week (taking supplements and following diet), my skin looks so much better.

niceupthedance · 26/09/2018 17:43

Get your eyebrows shaped and tinted I find it brightens the face/ballsack

booandbumpp · 26/09/2018 18:41

The most awake I ever looked with regards to skin was when I was drinking 3l of day, eating few grains, no dairy, and making sure I got my vitamins in everyday. Boring answer I know as little to do with style ha. Ironically also the time I was getting the least sleep (aside from the amount of sleep I'm getting now, but I'm 36 weeks pregnant and am strong resembling a ball sack)

booandbumpp · 26/09/2018 18:42

Also - been told by dermatologist the only anti aging cream is factor 50 sun cream and the best time to moisturise is straight after the shower!

Swiftier · 28/09/2018 08:50

My husband works varying early and late shifts, so he’s either begging home at 1 or 2 in the morning or he’s leaving home at 4 or 5 in the morning... so pretty much every day he’s working it’s going to disturb my sleep. And I also disturb his sleep when I get up for work and he’s on early shifts. The major thing that helped was getting a white noise generator - the one we got is basically a small fan and it really helps to block out the background noises. Maybe worth looking into?

Also - we have a dog. You should try and train yours not to wake you up! Could definitely be fixed - is there a dog trainer near you that could help?

FaceLikeAPairOfTits · 28/09/2018 08:54

Origins GinZing gives my ballsack a lovely glow. People have commented on it and everything. My sleep is awful.

lifebeginz · 28/09/2018 09:05

three words... cod.liver.oil The difference it has made to my skin is unreal!!!! A spoonful every morning seems to smooth and give a dewy glow......I will warn you though it tastes disgusting and you never get used to the taste...and unfortunately it has to be the actual oil as opposed to a capsule.....it will take a few weeks to notice it but I would never stop taking it now!

Plus one for the youtube music too! By chance one night one of those "affirmations while you sleep" came on and actually dare I say...it helped and now i put them on regularly! Hey if someone wants to tell me how amazing I am as a Idoze off then I am all for that

FreeButtonBee · 28/09/2018 09:13

agree with podcasts or music. There is a podcast called "relax into sleep guided meditation by meditation oasis which is 95% successful at getting me over/back to sleep. Just remember to turn off "automatic next podcast" in the settings section! otherwise something slightly less relaxing may automatically come on after and wake you up!

FaceLikeAPairOfTits · 28/09/2018 09:29

Oh, and to help with the sleep, have you tried a white noise machine? My sleep is still crappy, but it was really crappy before.

MKDons · 28/09/2018 11:28

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate all of your anti-ballsack ideas.

Upslidedown · 28/09/2018 13:54

Actually @lifebeginz you can take cod liver oil in a soft capsule and get no taste at all... it simply repeats on you and makes you want to throw up at a surprise time in the hours after taking.

So it comes to whether OP can suck it up or fancies a gamble 😁

Elledorado · 28/09/2018 13:55

I'm gonna try the cod liver oil spoonful! None of my kids have been good sleepers and the last one is the worst.

lynmilne65 · 28/09/2018 15:12

I got some under eye stuff from Avon which is good
