Hairspray to give fine hair hold & oomph

I have fine hair that's floppy, flyaway and easily tangled.

I've used Elnett for years but even the stronger hold ones aren't really working for me now.

I really noticed my hair has lost volume overs the years and need a hair spray to give a bit of volume and body especially to lift up and hold the crown area.

I've tried a couple of new ones but think maybe they were too heavy for my hair and just weighed it down in a matted clump!

Anyone know what I need please?

I have the same problem and hair styling powder is what you need. You sprinkle it on and then just hold your hair with your hand , the heat activates it, and then style. I use a V05 one.

Not a hairspray but the John Frieda range is good for style and volume. I'm intrigued by the powder!

I spray Elnette on my fingertips and then use them to sort of schoosh my hair at the roots a bit. I don't spray it all over, because it weighs my hair down.

I've found the lidl hairspray the best for my fine hair, it's a fine mist and not heavy. I spray a little bit on my roots just before I dry it and it gives my hair great volume

Thanks for replying.

Do you sprinkle the powder onto your hair or in your hand Freaky?

Thanks Purple - any particular recommendations from John Frieda please?

Would still love some hairspray ideas too if anyone can help.

I use a very light spray of Batiste XXL Volume dry shampoo on the roots and then find I only need a light touch of hairspray.

Bluntness100 · 25/09/2018 17:47

I also second John Frieda, their volume hairspray is good.

Elnette ive always found to be rather crap...

sureitsgrand · 25/09/2018 17:53

Another one for Batista xxl at the roots here, but even that isn't great recently. My hair is looking terrible since I had my 8mo.

PurpleArmy · 25/09/2018 18:22

The volume treatment is very good as is the root booster. My hair is fine and limp but these both give oomph! You need to blow dry so I use the Pantene oil on the ends to protect then apply the product.

Another one for John Frieda thickening products, they give really good density to your hair. Hairspray alone is great for setting but the prep/styling products do more of the legwork. I think you'll find the 7 day luxurious thickening treatment interesting, it actually made my hair too thick, so now I just use the luxurious volume styling spray.

Shampoos/conditioners - L'Oreal Elvive Fibrology thickening shampoo/conditioner is recommended by Sali Hughes of the guardian. It is great and I only buy that now.

BadderWolf · 25/09/2018 19:11

John Frieda volumising range, as pp have said, is good. The 7 day thickener is noticeable but quite exxy so I've not repurchased. But I use the blow dry spray every day and it's worth the money, time and effort. It's the first styling product I've ever stuck with in my entire life!

Thank you all so much! Lots of ideas there - will get some to try.

Would you be willing to try a mousse OP? I find the Sebastian Thickefy Foam brilliant for giving volume and hold - I use it before blow-drying and it makes a huge difference to my otherwise flat, limp hair.

GingerLDN · 26/09/2018 02:42

Have a look at Redken Quick Tease. It’s amazing stuff.

Yy to dry shampoo - it gives your hair a bit more body that holds up to styling
