Do you wear heart jewellery?

I might be being daft but I have various bits of jewellery that feature hearts in some way (those Tiffany/Paloma Picasso earrings everyone used to have, pair of very pretty little pavé heart studs, couple of other bits) and I never wear them because I feel like hearts might be a bit childish. I'm late 30s and subscribe to the Meghan Markle school of understated jewellery Grin If you saw someone my age wearing heart jewellery would you think it looked a bit odd?

Mid-fifties and wear hearts.

Never crossed my mind that they'd be considered childish, and wouldn't care if they were.

I have a beautiful Swarvoski heart necklace that my MIL bought me, I'm 40 and I wear it all the time!

SleepingInYourFlowerbed · 25/09/2018 15:55

I don't like hearts (or stars for that matter) on anything but nothing to do with them being childish

Hearts are my favourite shape to wear and I'm 45.

I’m 50s and wear quite a lot of jewellery (at one time) which some people may feel is not understated
However I stick to simple styles
Today I’m wearing plain diamond stud earrings a simple solitaire diamond pendant
On one wrist I have a matching set of 3 bangles 2 plain one set with diamonds
On the other wrist I have a simple channel set diamond bracelet
I wear quite a few rings too
I wouldn’t wear hearts or stars or flowers in jewellery as they just feel a bit twee for me
Nor would I wear ingots or sovereigns or chunky stuff which I associate with men in their 60s and 70s
Wear what suits you OP
I get a lot of pleasure from my jewellery and change it to suit my mood or the occasion or what I’m wearing

Heart shaped jewellery is childish? What bollocks.

evilharpy · 25/09/2018 17:08

AbeautifulBeast good point - if I’m questioning it then they are probably not for me.

I might put the heart stuff away for my daughter when she’s bigger.

Interesting to read the replies. I can’t think of anyone I know around my age who wears heart jewellery but I don’t tend to notice jewellery much on others unless it’s something I particularly like so maybe they do wear it!

It's just a shape. Nothing childish about it. It's not like wearing an image of Mickey Mouse or Peppa Pig.

I'm 30, one of my most worn pieces of jewellery is a heart necklace! It's black faceted cubic zirconia on a silver chain with tiny clear cubic zirconia stones set into the bail. I wanted it for ages then got it in the sale for £6! (From Argos, classy me.) I've had a few compliments and I love it.

I agree it seems a little young along with flower shapes, flip flops, butterflies etc. My DDs (20 somethings) wear them and they look fresh and lovely but on my middle aged self I think they would look twee. I do like star shapes but my everyday favourites are single stone pendants or circle shapes.

I also wouldn’t wear anything too chunky as I think they look even more middle aged than me. And I am small so they would swamp me.

But these are personal style preferences, I have friends my own age that wear both those styles of jewellery and they look lovely on them.

evilharpy · 26/09/2018 06:23

Loonoon that’s pretty much how I feel. Young is a better word than childish. Although I do have a pair of carved mother of pearl and gold flower shaped earrings that I wear all the time! But I wouldn’t wear flip flops or butterflies either. I have earrings shaped like tiny teapots and owls that have both been put away for my daughter.

I also don’t wear anything chunky apart from the odd ring. Not because I don’t like them or think they’re aging but they just don’t suit me. I look like I’m trying on someone else’s jewellery.

I don't wear heart jewellery, I've always felt it just isn't me, not really to do with age though. I don't wear a lot of jewellery and prefer very simple, small, plain designs.

fatpatsthong · 26/09/2018 07:45

I have 2 glass heart pendants I wear quite frequently. I wear a lot of necklaces which tend to be quirky in a low key way and these fit into that mould.

One is small, green and gold and one is a bit bigger and red. The red one was something I bought myself after loosing 2 babies so has a lot of sentimental meaning - I tend to wear it with very plain monochrome outfits as a tiny splash of colour.

BitOutOfPractice · 26/09/2018 07:53

I can honestly say that it’s never crossed my mind that heart shaped jewellery might have an age limit Confused

MinesaPinot · 26/09/2018 13:38

I've got a lovely mixed metal delicate heart necklace and matching bracelet by Swarovski that my DH bought me for my 50th that I wear a lot. I've also got a small diamond heart on a gold chain that he bought me before we were married that I wear as well.

It wouldn't occur to me that I was too old to wear them! They were given with love, and they are worn with the same sentiment.

I would steer clear of jewellery with animals or insects, but that's my personal taste - I don't like those motifs on clothing or accessories either - but each to their own.

Cinnamon12345 · 26/09/2018 13:42

I'm wearing hear shaped studs as we speak! (56)

reallyanotherone · 26/09/2018 13:43

I am puzzled.

Are you saying heart jewellery is only for younger people? After a certain age you should stop wearing it?

Wear what the fuck you like.

I have never got things like long hair on older women being a no no either.

Do you like it? Does it suit you? Then wear it. Fuck the “rules”.

Why are hearts childish anyway?

PinkFluffyFairy · 26/09/2018 13:48

I will always wear my heart shaped jewelry. I love them. Early 40s at moment.
DC2s middle name is Love.
Heart shapes everywhere in house too.
