What am I doing wrong with Clinique cleansing balm?

I usually use the Body Shop camomile balm, massaged into dry skin then taken off with a damp cotton wool pad and it leaves the pad satisfyingly grubby.

Am current,y using the Clinique balm (had to buy some when I was on holiday and no body shop to hand) but the pad is still white when I've taken it off.

Where am I going wrong? I could just buy more Body Shop balm but it's a waste of a full tub of expensive Clinique balm!

Have you tried a flannel instead with warm water? Generally much more effective and less waste. The Ikea ones are good and very cheap.

Aren't both of those designed to be taken off with a damp muslin cloth or flannel? Maybe the Clinique one needs a bit more 'grip' to get it off properly. Does your skin feel like it's all off when you're done?

The Clinique one is water soluble. You can just rinse it off. How much are you using? I have been using it for years, it removes even the heaviest makeup and leaves my skin scrupulously clean. I'm as confused as you are by your experience.

Have tried flannel, same thing. It doesn't feel like its coming off properly.
I use very little water on my face (aggravates my eczema), the BS came off really well with damp cotton wool so was ideal for me (not quite as well with a flannel unless it was very wet).

The C one is taking make up (foundation) off ok but not dirt. Most days I don't wear make up.

Sadly think will have to ditch the C one. It feels richer than the BS one so probably needs more water.

What are you using after cleansing? A moisturiser, any treatments? I don’t have eczema but have very dry skin.

La Roche Posay have a range called Toleriane which is for very intolerant skin - no parabens, alcohol etc. It’s a French pharmacy brand so you get really good quality for the price. You can get it in Boots but I usually get it online from Escentual as they always have offers.

My aunt gets bad eczema under her eyes and that range is the only thing that works for her other than using steroids.

Take - I did try that La Roche cream but found the Eucerin Ato range a bit more moisturising and calms down the itchiness....

I have been using it for about 1 month, decided to start looking after my skin so religiously using daily with an Avene moisturiser ( used to be more of a wash face in the shower person). My chin has come out in terrible spots, so lumpy with obv big spots under the skin. Have you found any similar problems?

dameofdilemma · 25/09/2018 09:23

Bairns - I haven't but I have very dry skin (didn't even have spots as a teenager). Personally I'd only use the cleansing balms if you have dry skin.

Use a warm soft flannel. Press onto face and neck. Gently wipe. Repeat

Bairnsmum05 · 25/09/2018 18:29

I’ve historically never had spots and always had dry/sensitised skin but wonder if that has changed. Got a dermalogical skin analysis booked so will await the result. It’s an odd one-my chin is hideous so I’m praying it’s just my skin purging 🙄

Go and but the Heimish All Clean balm on Amazon-best cleansing balm I've tried, apart from the Emma Hardie Moringa balm. I've sensitive, oily skin, and the Heimish balm does not irritate it, or dry my skin, and it totally cleanses my skin with just warm water to rinse it off.

paraffinwax · 27/09/2018 18:59

Definitely needs plenty of water to remove. The water does not need to be hot. I don't use a flannel/cotton pads with it because that irritates my skin more than rinsing it.

The Clinique Take the Day off balm is a makeup remover. It is not designed to be used as a standalone product. Even their website describes it as "our bestselling makeup remover".
