Would you spend £3,000 on tooth veneers?

I've always had discoloured teeth. I've had them whitened but it doesn't seem to do much.

My dentist has said tooth veneers would be about £3,000 and has promised I won't look like Rylan - they won't be that crowded or that white.

But, £3,000 is a lot of money. Is this ridiculously indulgent? I can afford it but I feel terrible spending such a huge amount on my face.

How often would you have to replace them?

It's up to you to decide how to spend your money; if it'll make you feel significantly better about yourself then do it.

YoumeandlittleP · 18/09/2018 14:27

I would love to have this done. I also suffer from discoloured teeth and have also had them whitenened and it didn't do much. I would 100% do it if I had the money. They're your teeth. I hate the fact that price can see that about me when we first meet. Also makes me wonder how disgusting they'll look as I get older. If you can afford it then do it!

I've spent a small fortune on ceramic braces to straighten my front teeth, purely because they annoyed me being slightly out of line, if you have the money and it's something you want then go for it.

A friend has had these done and although hers are pretty good they don't look natural at all. She likes them but personally I think she looked a lot better without and I can't get over how much she looks like she has dentures in. Expensive dentures but still too perfect to be real.
I would ask to see examples of actual ones he'd done because I'd like more of a reassurance than his word.

WumfyDumfy · 18/09/2018 14:44

They last about 10-15 years.

My teeth could do with straightening ideally but braces are looking at about £10,000, which I'm definitely not willing to spend.

Good idea to look at samples of her work, I'll ask about that.

Why would braces be so much money?

2cats2many · 18/09/2018 14:45

I've just spent £2k sorting out my smile (tooth whitening and replacement crowns) and I can honestly say that it was money very well spent. I've always been so self-conscious about my smile but now feel terrific. If you can afford it, go for it.

Ilove80s · 18/09/2018 14:46

How many veneers would you get for that? That sounds remarkably cheap.

WumfyDumfy · 18/09/2018 14:56

That'd be for six veneers.

Sorry, the £10,000 for braces also includes the veneers. So the braces are about £7,000 for the most expensive invisible ones. It'd take two years of braces to get them straight but I'd them still need veneers because they're so discoloured.

Yes I would (and I did). It's money well spent. I got my top 8 teeth done for about 4.5k

I'd had Invisalign before that and then they started moving back. Then one chipped and I just couldn't be arsed anymore so got the veneers.

I didn't go mega Hollywood white but they're straight and stain free and I'm happy with them. It's worth doing if your teeth bother you OP.

WumfyDumfy · 18/09/2018 15:00

Thanks people. I think I'm going to go for it - get the ball rolling Grin

If it was £3k for six I would get it done myself. I paid over £1500 for my front two teeth and even that makes an overall difference.

upsidedownfrown · 18/09/2018 16:01

Have you researched tooth bonding? One of my teeth sat slightly back from the others (the one next to the front one) so my (wonderful, private) dentist put a layer of bonding over the whole tooth so the front surface lined up with the neighbouring teeth. She did the biting edge of a couple of teeth too that had worn in a funny way.

Not sure if they'd do it across all front teeth but worth asking?! Much cheaper than veneers. It's the same material they use for white fillings but can be done in different shades. So around the price of a filling plus a bit more for their expertise. My dentist is like an artist!

Mine was done a couple of years ago and still looks perfect, no wearing or chips or anything and won't break the bank when it needs redone

SpoonBlender · 18/09/2018 16:07

Not a chance, and I've got the savings to if I wanted. To put on veneers they strip the front enamel off your tooth, so you're forever committed to new veneers for the rest of your life.

TheQueef · 18/09/2018 16:14

I've had porcelain veneers on my upper front four for about thirty years.
I've got little stumps of my old teeth under.
I've replaced once for wear and tear. Once after an airbag knocked them out and have had individual repairs around six times.
One thing to keep in mind is if you need to replace only one you could end up with different colours so budget to replace as a set.
