Every pair of shoes I buy skins my heels

Help me S&B

I’ve been on here before with similar but I’m at my wits’ end trying to find shoes that won’t skin my heels.

I’ve had my feet measured twice by Clarks and John Lewis and I’m 5.5.

However in some styles I fit a 6 as obviosuly not all size 5.5s are made equal and I have shoes in both sizes.

I have pumps, brogues and other flats. I always try and walk a lot in the shop before buying but it seems the moment I need to wear them in real life they either skin my heels, rub my toes or are just uncomfortable.

I try and wear the shoes in but I’m now at the stage of running four pairs of newish (past three months) shoes and I can’t even do a fifteen minute walk to the station without hobbling at the end of it.

Has this happened to any of you and how did you rectify it?

I really am at my wits fucking end as I don’t have this issue with my boots and it’s too warm where I am to start putting on my 60 deniers and Chelsea boots.

have you tried moleskin?

Coffeepot72 · 18/09/2018 13:35

Sorry to sound dense - so you need to buy insoles to go into your shoes, and then attach the neoprene to it? Can you use the neoprene without the extra insoles?

theunsure · 18/09/2018 13:36

I have never found a solution to this. I have to go from sandals to tights and boots - there is no in between as everything with a proper heel (that is not a boot) rubs my narrow heels (but not narrow feet).

I would love to war a court show or loafer - not going to happen sadly! I can't even wear trainers.

Paranormalbouquet · 18/09/2018 13:37

I always get this too. My heels are much narrower than the front of my feet so they slip and blister. It’s horrible.

JaneJeffer · 18/09/2018 13:42

I can only wear laced brogues or Mary-Jane style shoes. I prefer backless sandals or boots. Loafers or court shoes either fall off when I'm walking or cut my heels. I've tried all those things you stick on the heel of the shoe but they don't work. I've seen a suggestion that putting surgical tape on your heels prevents it?

thenightsky · 18/09/2018 13:48

I've had this issue since childhood. I used to come home from school with my heels bleeding (1.5 mile walk).

I test all soles for bendiness before I buy. Any hint of being not easily bent double and I don't buy. Some of my comfiest shoes have been the cheapest of the cheap from Primark, Tesco, or off the local market. Shame really because they don't last very long.

MipMipMip · 18/09/2018 13:52

Coffee I'm afraid I've only tried them for boots and trainers with removable insoles. You can buy very thin ones though. I suppose there's no need to have them though if you're standing on the under bit. You might was to tape the bottom bit in place.

MipMipMip · 18/09/2018 13:54

I've seen these on wish that would probably work in the same way with holding in place.

Funny @thenightsky I’ve also experienced wonderful things from there too, alas lightning doesn’t strike twice and I tried to spend more money thinkingbid get a higher quality product and it’s same shit, different credit card bill.

@mipmipmip that’s an inspired design but outwits my abilities so it’s off to Wish I go! Thank you x

Great if you can get plasters to stick but mine never do for long if my shoes are rubbing. I recently discovered this tincture of Benzoin (got it cheaply on ebay but chemists may have it) It's a traditional way to reduce skin irritation and make adhesive dressings stick. I found it simple and brilliant - and doesn't hurt when you peel the plaster off.

Mip - sorry, I'm being dense again, have you got a link for the Wish product, I can't find the website? Is it just called "Wish"?

nothingwittyhere · 18/09/2018 14:38

Have you tried two pairs of socks, or two-layer socks (often labelled as anti-blister)? I have these from M&S and they are fairly thin overall (the two layers are thin):

(Sorry for long link, can't get it shorter.)

BaronessBomburst · 18/09/2018 14:44

I keep a second lip balm in my handbag for rubbing on my heels. A nice thick layer of wax stops anything rubbing - and softens the leather.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 18/09/2018 15:41

I think I’ll get that tincture of benzoin.

Basically I work in a corporate environment and wear flats and skirts with black if sheer tights. As it’s been an Indian summer I’ve managed to get away with bare legs and nice chunky sandals.

I have to find a way to be able to sort the issue without looking scruffy as fuck and as it’s the weird time between summer and autumn I’m I’m a dilemma so my plans going forward:

Tape the back of my heels up with not only a large fabric plaster but potentially some tape as well. Must try and avoid it peeking out above shoe line too much looking awful.

Get that tincture and rub it on my heels daily to “toughen them up”

Keep switching round my shoes to try break them and insert the @mipmipmip recommended inserts in shoes after this set of burst blisters and skinned heels have healed up.

I to wear the Blister plasters. They are fab and I always carry a pkt in my bag.

They really work!

Compeed balm (rub it on the skin)
Socks are vital. Don't fall for the tyranny of the bare foot.

hendricksy · 18/09/2018 16:57

Same here , I have hideously difficult feet . Jigsaw pumps are the best thing I've found but they are pricey 😬

hendricksy · 18/09/2018 16:59

Suede heel grips help.

flowery · 18/09/2018 17:03

I use this anti-blister stick, it's brilliant.

Flyingsouthwiththeswallows · 18/09/2018 17:07

Have you tried Vaseline.

I was taught this trick years ago by a Policeman. Their boots are so hard that his feet would be ripped to shreds for weeks after getting a new pair.

Rub vaseline liberally into the inside of the leather in any place that rubs your feet. It will soften the leather and also provide a slightly slippery surface so your skin doesn't cling to the leather and blister.

Be careful if the shoes are coloured or suede. It is only the inside surface that you treat and you don't want the vaseline to stain the external surface.

It works for me every time !!

TerfsUp · 18/09/2018 17:11

I have the same problem because my heels stick out a bit. I recently bought some gel heel protectors (they are like cut-off socks) and they have been a lifesaver.

Orchiddingme · 18/09/2018 17:12

I find in the UK it goes pretty cold quite quickly and so have already made the jump to ankle boots with jeans already, I shall be following with black tights in another week or two.

MipMipMip · 18/09/2018 18:04

Here you are Coffee. I haven't tried these one but with it going under the heel I think it will stay in place that the ones you stick on. I think you'll like 2 Pair Silicone Shoe High Heel Dance Insole Gel Grips Foot Protector. Add it to your wishlist!
