What do people wear to the races (bog standard) at this time of year? Have never been!

Off to Ripon races next week. I know nothing about racing or etiquette.

Have a super comfy and flattering dark pink shift dress like this. Would wear with opaques and heeled ankle boots (block heel, can stand for hours in them) and a naice coat.

Would this be ok? Was tempted to buy something new but my finances have sternly told me to rethink 😐.

Looks good to me, though I would say I still find the races pretty hard to judge as they seem to vary a lot of my area. I think your outfit would fit in at any I’ve been to though.

It does depend on the meeting and enclosure (some have dress codes) but in the absence of a dress code I'd be going in jeans, top/cardi and flat sandals or boots (weather dependent). There's a lot of standing so comfy footwear is a must, glad you've got that covered.

I think you would look lovely in those clothes. It was Doncaster races last week, which is near me, good god some of the outfits were well out there.

ChateauneufDuTwat · 18/09/2018 07:33

Thanks all.

The only dress code I can find is for men and says please wear a collared shirt and smart trousers - no sportswear, no ripped jeans etc.

I have a pathological fear of being underdressed but also don't want to look like a eejit.

Country chav.

Fairafx and favour boots, hat with a feather etc

CMOTDibbler · 18/09/2018 07:53

Skinny jeans, long 'country' boots, shirt or Joules type top, tweed or quilted/down jacket, hat

ChateauneufDuTwat · 18/09/2018 07:56

The only item of 'country' clothing I own is a Paul Costelloe tweed jacket I nabbed in a charity shop.

Might try and work around that?

I wouldn't wear a dress unless a races occasion.

ChateauneufDuTwat · 18/09/2018 12:16

Tweed jacket outfit would be:

Jacket
Fine knit black roll neck jumper
Good quality skinnies (mid wash, indigo or black).
Brown knee high leather boots with block heel.

Does that sound more suitable?

Add a pair of gloves and a trilby and you'll blend right in Smile

GardenTools · 18/09/2018 13:57

Country Chav Grin

ChateauneufDuTwat · 28/09/2018 11:01

Right, have an outfit together. Will I do?!

Tempted to change the high neck top for a less coverage one as it's a bit warmer than I expected.

Country chav or someone going to a fancy dress party as Boggis, Bunce or Bean?

Hair will be up and messy and will stick a nice lipstick on.

I'd go with the second outfit. First outfit, the dress is nice but I don't think it would look great with opaques and boots. It's more of a nude legs and heels type dress.
