Hi guys,

Am taking my niece shopping for her 14th birthday present. Said we could make a day of it and she could choose where to go -
she's chosen Oxford Street - now, I have not been shopping there since I got pregnant with dd, ie 3 years ago, and I have no idea where's good to go.

She only really knows about Topshop and the new Primark store - if memory serves, there's the big H&M and a Zara as well, but just in case that doesn't keep us occupied all day, could you lovely people please give me an idea about where else would be good to go to? She only really knows the big chains so I'd quite like to show her something different, even if we do end up buying up Primark...

Does Selfridges still have that 'Spirit' department? I have vague recollections of that being quite good... would it be worth a detour down Regent St and towards Covent Garden?

Also any tips or recommendations about where to go for lunch would be gratefully received, as in the past I'd have gone into an All Bar One or something, but I don't think I can do that with a 14 yr old in tow!

Thanking you...

Liberty has very lovely cafes to do proper tea with scones, sandwiches etc...

Selfridges also have lovely spaces to eat and at the top they have a massive buffet with lots of yummy foods...

Or Christopher place, the pedestrian bit behind Oxford Street where there are plenty of restaurants....

enjoy!

Miss Selfridge, Oasis, JANE NORMAN (soooo trendy), Warehouse, Mango?

try out Liberty - www.liberty.co.uk/contact_us/how_to_find_us

Ooh, I'd forgotten about Liberty - love that building (clothing a bit staid/hellishly expensive for a 14 yr old?? no??) - thanks for the link, maisym, think I may have to take out a mortgage for afternoon tea there, tho'!

You're quite right, cod, I shall no doubt end up spending the entire morning in Topshop and the afternoon in Primark, but it's her birthday.... will try and subtly steer her towards Selfridges!

Thanks for the tips, loads there to think about!

Go for a look around if you have time - so different to other shops.
