No new clothing 12 months. Can I do it?

That's it really- my public pledge.
I'm frankly disgusted with myself that after doing my annual sort out I have discovered clothing I didn't even know I had.
So- one year, no new items. I'll allow myself underwear as required only.
Eeek.

Do it! Every time I do a 'no spend' month I've ended up succumbing half way through Envy I think it would feel empowering to break through that and not feel the 'need' to buy. I did a clear out this weekend and I was shocked at what I put out, hundreds of pounds worth of clothes, that was money once! It's gutting to see what I felt I 'needed' at the time just lying on the floor waiting to go out of the house Sad

Thats the thing when you have a clear out. The amount of unworn stuff with the labels still attached. Also key is not keeping stuff for best. Wear it. The amount of stuff I have bought and not had the occasion (in my head) to wear it and when I dig it out it is either way out of fashion or no longer fits!

Headinabook85 · 02/10/2018 10:19

You are so right Sarcelle. Just wear the stuff you would normally think of saving for best. You have literally given me permission to just get on and wear my best bits 😁

And devil-that's it exactly! Being made to feel dissatisfied with what you already have. Such a manipulative marketing strategy.

How are you lot doing? Have been strong so far though today am seriously tempted by a beautiful vintage sweater. The problem with vintage is that it is unique - if you don't snap it up, that is it.

I just saw this thread, I'm totally in!
I'm very guilty of the 'Oh, it's a sale' or 'It only cost x' but I know I'd save myself a fortune.
I had a mini spree the other day as i did actually need a few tops for work.
I'm going to hang out here with you guys and try and ignore my ASOS app.
I'm not strong enough to delete it.....Blush.

namastayinbed · 07/10/2018 08:09

I'm going to try for a no spend October - baby footsteps and all that!

thedevilinablackdress · 07/10/2018 08:12

Keep at it people! Took memore than a few attempts to delete the eBay app for good...seems to be sticking this time.
Removing temptation is important - magazines, mailing lists, apps, peddlers of lovely things on Instagram.

Be strong @Gah81. Pass the joy of the home jumper onto someone else.

I love spending money, even if it's money I don't really have. I have a work dress in my wardrobe that I NEEDED for work but 3 weeks later it's still there with the tags on. Nothing wrong with it, I just have so many other clothes I have not got around to wearing it!

I am also trying to be a bit "greener" and was reading about the amount of clothes going into landfill the other day.

So I am with you, but blimey this is going to be hard.

lyinginthesundrinkingbubbles · 07/10/2018 09:11

I'm still going.
Things I've noticed though:

  1. I'm spending a bit more on dry cleaning and shoe repairs.
  2. I bought a couple of different coloured tights to wear with dresses and skirts I own to ring the changes a bit. I also am wearing more statement jewellery and scarves I own already.
  3. I'm really mixing things up a bit and getting complements.

...... but the biggest thing is it has spurred me on to lose a bit of weight so I am actually starting to wear those things in the back of the wardrobe which were always a bit tight.

Bonus.
