Pulled thread in silk crepe de chine- is my dress destroyed?

I have a Vivienne Westwood silk dress that I have worn once. I must have caught it on my heel or something because there is one obvious snag/ pulled thread (no holes and the actual excess loop of thread is tiny) in the skirt that really catches the eye. I've tried to pull the fabric with no luck.

Any tips gratefully received! It's lovely and it for once it fits me, so it makes be sob that I've potentially trashed it.

Bring it to a good seamstress?

I once knew a woman that could fix stockings / pantyhose delicate fabrics in general (with very thin thread and a magnifying glass)...

Stockings/pantyhose and delicate fabrics in general.

can you post a photo of the damage?
Might be fixable with a very fine needle but depends on how the pull looks and your own confidence, hence as pumpkin says maybe a seamstress would be best option...

Here it is, I've tried to massage and pull the fabric but it's still puckered :(

Ah - its the puckering that's the problem
Where is it - are you sure its obvious once its being worn? If its a full skirt and there are gathers I would probably just iron as much as I can and pretend its not there!
I'm not sure what I could do myself on that - seamstress is probably only option to see if they can do anything magical to the pucker or at worst case scenario a bit of adjustment on length or fit to try and remove the problem area...

You're right: ) I think I'll press it and brazen it out! It's for an evening do, so hopefully with plenty of wine and dim lighting no-one will notice!

It depends where it is... But it must be towards the hemline (if you stepped on it?) So it probably won't be too noticeable.

Ironing: if I recall correctly
Iron it from the "wrong/left side" with a warm-ish/cool-ish iron (lowest setting).
You could be extra careful and put something between the iron and the dress.

Sprinkling it with water can lead to stains btw.

Or bring it to dry cleaning?

hendricksy · 16/09/2018 18:46

Iron it on the inside

hendricksy · 16/09/2018 18:47

Dry cleaning won't fix a pull , in fact it's mor likely to get worse ..

pumpkinyael · 16/09/2018 19:21

hendricksy

Really? But yes, iron it on the left side.

CandidCamerama · 16/09/2018 20:54

@cathyandclare

Invisible mending is what you need: -

It can be expensive though but maybe worth it if either the garment is itself expensive or something that you love so much you want it repaired.

hendricksy · 16/09/2018 21:50

@pumpkinyael .. really at dry cleaning making it worse ? Yes it's like washing and is stress on the material so may make it worse .

cathyandclare · 21/09/2018 17:26

I've pulled it again and pressed it and it looks much better, so I'm going to wear it. Thanks for all the advice :)
