Dungarees

I don't live in the UK so thats my excuse if this sounds like I've been hiding under a rock.....
I follow a few different predominantly mum's groups on Facebook and noticed more and more people saying dungarees were a wardrobe staple and mentioning Lucy and yak. At first I thought it was an individual with interesting style but it slowly dawned on me that they are 'in' Blush
I really want to like them but just can't imagine them being flattering. I'm a 10-12, 5'7 bit pear shaped. So who wears dungarees, is it the next 'mum uniform'
I liked the look of them but thought they looked a bit alternative. If it's actually a massive trend that kind of puts me off, largely as I'm not sure if I'll pull them off as well as everyone else and as I'm clearly not good at keeping up with fashion I'll probably jump on a bandwagon as they're going outHmm.
If you have any 'real life' pictures of how they look on, or what you wear them with, particularly shoes.

I wear them, I actually have two Lucy & Yaks, one midi dress (which I wore today) and the dungarees. I also have a black pair of Asos dungarees. I have no idea if they are a mum uniform, I couldn't comment on that. I think dungarees are very flattering surprisingly, I am an apple and think I look fairly OK.
Shoes wise, today i wore DMs, which go well - I have been known to wear 30s style blouses and brogues with dungarees, which works for me. Brogues, sneakers and DMs all work well for me.

I tend to wear t-shirt/vest/Breton type top with superga/converse. I’m also an apple, I’m 40 and they surprisingly look good. I never come across anyone else wearing them IRL.

I have been wondering how to wear them in the autumn/winter months and how to do them with boots. Violet do you have any pics? I also have an ASOS pair.

VioletWillow · 14/09/2018 22:25

Zippy I like a Breton with dungarees too 😊 I don't have a full length photo - maybe the odd selfie. I have the ASOS cropped black pair, for summer I wore them with sneakers, for autumn I shall wear tights and brogues or DMs I think.

I've been wearing mine (ASOS) with a t shirt and Converse this summer but mine are maternity. They're not really about "flattering" - it's just a shape and it does take some getting used to!

That's not me but is how I style them.

Once you start adding frilly shirts underneath, stripy socks, crazy shoes as in some of the Lucy and Yak styling then they are a bit alternative/hipstery.

Thanks, I'm very tempted, just not quite sure I can pull it off. I loved dungarees pre puberty and hipsGrin
I like the sound of the 30s blouses.

Also just been watching Meryl Streep in the first mamma Mia and she looks great in dungarees. I clearly just need some amazing long blonde hair.

I’m wearing them for the first time ever but they’re black maternity ones. I am contemplating getting a pair of non-maternity ones when I’m no longer pregnant as I do quite like them as an outfit choice. Unsure if I’d go for black or denim.

I like these but on someone else as I don’t think green cord is really me.

Those of us who word dungarees last century aren't rushing into this trend. It's been in the shops for quite a while and hasn't become the 'next big thing' but is seen frequently enough that it looks unexceptional at the moment.

It often looks bad on the large of nork, depending on the cut and sit of the bib, which is almost always wrong n 'proper' dungarees, but might be Ok with a top that is cut slightly more substantially. So expect to try a lot on unless your bust is very ll.

I bloody love mine. Hush black denim.
