Thinking of treating myself to this .... classic or will I regret it ?

Yes or no ?

Not sure. Like Hermes, these belts are ubiquitous (as fakes) these days. I do like Gucci and purchase items there now and again...favourite item is a large wallet in the most beautifully soft leather with a very discreet logo on the clasp...I just wouldn't buy a big logo belt.

Ceeeeeelia · 13/09/2018 22:51

No (sorry). A bit try hard.

whymewhyme · 13/09/2018 23:01

It's a yes from me, if I could afford it I wouldn't care if it looked "try hard"

DramaAlpaca · 13/09/2018 23:03

I think big ostentatious logos like that are tacky. Sorry.

BadderWolf · 13/09/2018 23:07

OP have you seen the horsebit bet and queen Margaret belts? 😍

Pearlton · 13/09/2018 23:09

@Movin What exactly is making you unsure? When Im trying to decide on new items I try to imagine how much mileage I can get from it - will it go with lots of outfits/ pieces you already own? Does it suit your personal style? Is it similar to anything you already own and if so, is that ok because you wear the same kind of stuff a lot (for example, I wear lots of midi dresses and I'm comfortable and feel good in them, so another midi would be good for me. But if I had 4 green floral midis that might be too many to get much wear from.)

I really like the way it has been styled on the model in the pic, I love that outfit, it does seem to elevate a simple (although gorgeously well designed) outfit. If you went for it, would you wear it in a similar way or differently somehow?

I hope these questions/ideas help you to make your choice and decide.

MoltonSilver · 13/09/2018 23:14

It a no from me. It's not a classic.

Movin · 13/09/2018 23:26

@BadderWolf no - can you send me a link ?

hmm i'd not be sure either OP, i do technically like them but every teenager i see is wearing a fake, and they're so ubiquitous now with just about every 'fashion blogger' going.
I feel like i've been looking at and seeing it on people for at least 6 months now and it makes me think its had it's moment so to speak, i loved it too at first but now feel a bit fed up of seeing it and am glad i didn't get one.
Really it all depends on how often you will wear it, and how much you like it though? It's a simple design so is versatile at least, unlike a lot of 'must have' seasonal items. The Gucci horsebit belts a PP mentioned are more subtle, but again ,depends whether you want people to be able to tell it's Gucci, or you just like the belt. If it's the latter i'd get a fake from Primark first and see how much you wear it or what you have that it goes with for AW.

Movin · 14/09/2018 04:32

I can't find the horsebit belts on the Gucci website. Love the queen Margaret, but $1k is a bit much to spend on a belt imo. Might go into Gucci to have look.

Even though i would probably not wear it myself, i do like it and i think if you really love it and it will work with your general style then yes, you should get it. In the end, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks of it, you'd be the one wearing it so if you love it, go for it!

Mercurial123 · 14/09/2018 05:52

I wouldn't buy it as I avoid logos. You can get much nicer belts than that. I don't think it elevates the outfit the model is wearing.

cathyandclare · 14/09/2018 08:14

I bought one of those belts (almost identical just a few subtle changes) for my Mum nearly twenty years ago. They were much more affordable them. She's worn it consistently and despite my attempts to steal it back she's holding on for dear life. So, I think they are classic. You do need to have an understated outfit though (like your pic), anything too flashy or blingy and it looks OTT.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 14/09/2018 08:16

I like them and have one in tan. I wear it endlessly with jeans and shirts (which is my usual outfit). I think it must be at least a year or so old and I've worn it at least a few times a week so cost per wear is reasonable.

mononoaware1907 · 14/09/2018 13:34

I love it and I had my eye on it for a while. Didn't buy it yet though as it is a bit pricy, but as a PP says, if you wear a few times a week which I would, cost per wear is great. I'd go for it

Welshcake77 · 14/09/2018 14:12

I’ve also been considering buying this for a couple of weeks now...only holding off as we are going to Milan in a few weeks so want to buy it there. I say go for it!

I like the look of this one too so going to try them both on

People who like such obvious branding may like it. Others like me who don't like such obvious branding may think you are just a try-hard.

The horse bit belt is so much classier.

EdinaMonsoon · 14/09/2018 15:51

I prefer the Horsebit belt but actually think you would get more wear from the one in your OP. I honestly believe that if you truly love something and know that you will wear & enjoy it then go for it. Yes, they are everywhere, yes there are fakes, but you will know that it's the real deal: who cares what other people think?! They are beautifully made and IMO look & feel like they would last for many years (which they would have to at that price but, as we all know, price doesn't guarantee quality & longevity).
