Products to make hair thicker

Help! I had a baby four months ago, and it feels like in the past few weeks half of my hair has fallen out.

I know during pregnancy, hormones mean that less hair falls out, so this is just all that hair falling out. But what's left feels thin and limp, and makes me sad. Each strand is still thick as ever, but I just seem to have half the number of strands.

Can you recommend any products for me to try to encourage hair growth, and promote healthy hair? Things that have worked for you please!

I imagine most of the promoting thing will be good diet, vitamin supplements, and your hormones getting back to normal over time, but for the short term i’ve heard very good things from friends about l’oreal’s thicking shampoo;

Multivitamin with iron to help with any post-pregnancy and childbirth anaemia

helvetica01 · 09/09/2018 22:34

Thank you! I'm already taking vitamins and eat reasonably well... perhaps there's no miracle cure

Are you taking high strength biotin?

FlamingoLass · 09/09/2018 22:38

There genuinely isn’t a product that will help thicken hair I’m afraid. Eating well will encourage regrow however.

Tinysarah1985 · 09/09/2018 22:47

Alpecin shampoo- it’s in a red bottle with a black lid. It’s got caffeen in which does something to make hair thicker. My in laws have used it and hair has got thicker after a few weeks use.

Fibrology as mentioned by PP also the Plantur (sp?) 49 in a green bottle. Not cheap but seems to work!

Miniwookie · 09/09/2018 22:58

Dont panic. You don't need to do anything it will just come back. I've had 4 pregnancies and happened every time around 3-4 months pp. Falls out alarmingly for about a month and then starts growing back in. Mine gets noticeably bald esp at the temples and hairline. Honestly, save your money. You will start to see the regrowth coming in in the next month or so, just style your hair to disguise it if it's noticeable. Mine was worst around my hairline so looked better if I left it down.

I suffered a bit of hair loss a couple of years ago when I was under a lot of stress. I found that a mousse I got from Holland and Barrett worked well alongside a biotin supplement. Can't remember the name but it was by Dr Organics and it was in a white pump bottle. If I can find it on their website I'll post the link

This is it. You can get the shampoo and conditioner to go with it but I haven't tried either of those. Hope you find something that works for you, I know how upsetting thinning hair is

Thank you everyone, and I was so glad in particular to read your post @Miniwookie !

I use Big shampoo from lush if I want my hair to look thicker

NancyFridayWrites · 10/09/2018 08:59

Klorane quninine shampoo and conditioner, brilliant. NEed to order it from John Lewis or Boots.

princesstiasmum · 10/09/2018 09:24

Superdrug and Boots sell something called Roots, a spray and shampoo and conditioner, with all natural ingredients, supposed to work,

princesstiasmum · 10/09/2018 09:27

Meant to say i have also been taking Biotin, not seen much difference in hair but nails have grown and are stronger
I second Elvive too

Bouledeneige · 10/09/2018 13:54

No products change the thickness, quantity or underlying condition of your hair they just coat it.

I'd focus on the healthy diet side and not worry too much about it.

princesstiasmum · 10/09/2018 14:12

There are a few to help regrowth but they are expensive, like Regaine ,and Roots as mentioned earlier, but not been using it long

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 10/09/2018 15:00

Ive just started using Maui bamboo shampoo. They’ve just got it in my local supermarket.

Hair feels thicker and swishier but nice and soft too. I find that some like OGX give me the volume but make my hair like straw after a while.

It’s free from so many things (SLS, parabens etc) that I wondered what it actually does have. Aloe juice apparently. Since it’s not got anything nasty it won’t harm even if it doesn’t help.
