Nails knackered after shellac.

I’ve just peeled off the last of my shellac - all but 3 peeled (or pinged off) in a full piece and the others lifted to the degree that they were practically hanging off so I peeled. I know. Peeling bad but acetone also isn’t great.
They are just awful. I’ve got some Diamond strength which I’ve just put on and some nail oil but anything else to hasten their recovery?

You'll just have to grow it out. Shellac does that to my nails everytime, no matter how they are removed and who does them.

CutesyUserName · 09/09/2018 15:49

You can help them recover with a nail/cuticle oil, such as solar oil. As @Molton said, apart from that it'll just take time, unfortunately.

mrs2468 · 09/09/2018 15:56

Give them a good buff and file. Will make them a bit better

Needahairbrush · 09/09/2018 17:07

Why did you peel it ?!?!?! That’s what will have done it.
Keep moisturising or oiling them.

Ifonlyiweretaller · 09/09/2018 17:45

Mine do this every so often. If you use Nailtiques 2 plus Formula for a month this will definitely help. You cant put colour on but at least it gives a shiny clear finish.

Polkapjs · 09/09/2018 17:56

The Shellac was filed off last time Lee application of new and they were knackered underneath. Then most of them have come off in a single piece - no peeling needed, they practically popped off after putting hands through my hair or similar, then others come up 2/3 of the way on their own and I was bad and peeled. I’ll get some Nailtiques. Used it before. And oil. That’ll teach me!!

My nails are like this even after professional removal. I usually have very strong nails but after shellac or gel they are brittle and dry. I now just wear them short.

Sunflowersforever · 09/09/2018 18:01

I get this too. When I commit to shellac/gel nails, I do it in 8 week bursts for special times (like up to Christmas) knowing I'll have to leave them for 8 weeks or so to recover without anything on them.

Woodwick · 09/09/2018 18:05

Mine take months to recover too. I find gelish is better than shellac.

Wolfiefan · 09/09/2018 18:07

It's the peeling.
If a "professional" files it off that'll do it too. The salon I go to uses an acetone steamer. No damage at all.

habibihabibi · 09/09/2018 18:15

Shellac completely ruins my nails . I've had various varieties, tried different salons and different removal methods. Always end up with sore, dry nails and cuticles. Now I just buff or have light pink polish . Just need to make it to Christmas and it will be a year shellac free.

MinesaPinot · 09/09/2018 18:34

I had Shellac continuously for about 3 months and it wrecked my nails. They came back with copious amounts of oil and Nailtiques 2 as a previous poster recommended. I now have Gelish as I find it a bit kinder. I had a Gelish mani/pedi a couple of weeks ago before my holiday. I've just had the mani taken off, toes next week. I'll then leave it for a couple of weeks and put on loads of oil before I have it done again at the end of the month for a special party, but once it's taken off after that I will just have regular mani/pedi until holiday season next year to give my nails time to recover.

Polkapjs · 09/09/2018 18:41

Thanks all. I’ve had OPI before with no such issues but my lady uses Shellac and I love her so go to her most of the time
Time for a break though I feel

Interesting the different reactions we have to products. I’ve had Shellac applied every 2/3 weeks without a break for the past 7 years and my nails are in great condition. Strong and not at all brittle.

Like @CutesyUserName says, Solar Oil is really good. I have the cheap 3.7ml bottles popped round the house and car so i can made use them when convient.

avamiah · 10/09/2018 00:50

I love shellac.
No problems ever .

florriepeck · 10/09/2018 08:48

I've had Jessica gel nails done every three weeks at a salon without a break for about 18 months, and never had any problems; have never tried to remove it myself, and there's never been anything to peel.
However, I'm having a break at the moment, as I am due to have an operation and won't be allowed to wear nail polish to go to theatre also, I won't be able to be out and about for a couple of weeks, for having nails done.
So I'm taking the opportunity to look after my nails and condition them: I've been using Sally Hansen Gel Rehab for the last few nights: I bought it from Amazon, but I think it's sold in Superdrug
Also got some Sally Hansen Miracle Cure to start using after the Rehab stuff.

princesstiasmum · 10/09/2018 09:33

I ruined my nails with using glue on nails at home, and the only thing that seems to have helped is Diamond strength, and Biotin

Cutesbabasmummy · 10/09/2018 10:03

My nails are trashed after shellac too. I soak off in acetone but acetone leaches every bit of moisture out of the nail. I only have shellac if I'm going on holiday now. the rest of the time I find the Rimmel gel effect stuff lasts longer than any other varnish and trust me I've tried the lot!

My mum has just got some stuff off the net that she says are improving her nails - I'll find out what it is and post later.

HundredMilesAnHour · 10/09/2018 20:01

I had Shellac every 2 weeks for over 2 years and my nails were fine. Then I moved (countries) and had to find a new salon near me and that's when the problems started.

I tried a few different salons and within a few months, my nails were trashed. I took a break from Shellac and applied Nail Envy religiously every few days, and used cuticle oil (Solar Oil or Opi's version) every night before bed. It took quite a few months for my nails to recover. Now I get Shellac done but only for special occasions/holidays. I wear Nail Envy the rest of the time and apply cuticle oil at least one each day. I have become slightly obsessive about cuticle oil!!!

Sad to say but I think it's the application and/or removal that does the damage rather than Shellac itself. I have yet to find a salon in my current area that follows Shellac's application process down to the letter. Everyone seems to cut corners (e.g. buffing nails when Shellac says NOT to do this, not using dehydrator etc) and I suspect this is what contributes to the damage.

thedayismine · 10/09/2018 20:47

I have had weak rubbish nails for years - followed by two years of shellac .
Had a break over summer and my nail lady recommended this -

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00U6IC4BE/ref=mpssa111aa_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1536608682&sr=8-1&keywords=cnd+keratin+treatment&dpPl=1&dpID=41iqBHiqY%2BL&ref=plSrch

It's amazing - ok it did take a few weeks but my nails are better than I can ever remember and I have tried many many products .
Couldn't be happier - they left ok so good I am actually quite happy with them not being painted even !

thedayismine · 10/09/2018 20:48

Sorry I meant they look so good not left ok !

princesstiasmum · 10/09/2018 21:21

There has been a lot of publicity recently about salons using fake nail varnishes etc
