Job interview - What to wear?

I've got a job interview coming up this week for a part-time editorial role. Not only has it been years since I had an interview, they were always in quite corporate environments. Think trouser suits and power heels.

This is obviously a bit more of a relaxed role, but the person interviewing me has also been an editor at a number of fashion magazines. I am, in no way, fashionable and I'm panicking a touch.

I have a pair of leopard print, western tipped boots which are quite quirky and I was thinking these, with a pair of smart black, skinny jeans and an emerald green smart jumper. Too informal? The interview is in a pub as well, and I have to drive a few hours to get to it.

Any assistance for a size 16 hot mess would be greatly appreciated.

No to the leopard print boots.

Our HOD was interviewing one year, in an office off the open plan office in which we worked. One woman turned up for the interview in suitable clothes, and "attention seeking" footwear. That was all people talked out - in a negative way. She didn't get the job.

It is always better to wear clothes that make you look like you want the job and not like you are going out on a Saturday night, no matter how informal the setting.

Hmmm, I see what you're saying. It's so hard though because it's a lifestyle role so I need to have a bit of "personality" so to speak... but it's just a question of how much of it to show.

That and I no longer own any other shoes apart from trainers Grin

Can you buy some shoes? I would go fairly plain but good quality-semi tailored iyswim.
So, no to the boots (!)but yes to some kind of tailored skirt/trouser/ cullottes with maybe black or brown leather ankle boots.
Get a good haircut and keep make up unobtrusive.
If she is fashiony you could do a plain trouser, simple jacket but more funky top. That's where leopard print might work, on a t shirt, jumper or cotton shirt-no sparkles or lurex.

@IfNotNowThenWhen1 that sounds ideal. Maybe a pleated midi or something along those lines. I'll have a mooch online and see what I can come up with.

Definitely need some new shoes though.
