The ‘how to look expensive’ thread...

I’m sorry, I’m a relative stranger to the S&B board but I did follow a bread a few months back called ‘how to look expensive in the summer’ and was really hoping there would be one knocking about for Autumn - my favourite time of year for dressing! I can’t seem to find one.
Have I not looked properly? And if that’s the case... how do I ‘look expensive’ in autumn??
Thank you.

My plan is to wear a camel coat with everything Grin

Haha. Good plan. My only plan so far is Pinterest!

I think that when going into the colder months you should splash out on the outermost layer and then what's underneath can be cheaper. For example a good coat and boots will look expensive even over cheaper under layers. A simple outfit with a designer scarf or handbag is always great too

I love threads like this.
I think with all matters of style some of it is inherent in the person. I've been thinking about what it is about my most stylish friends for years and conclude that a large element of it is just in their stature, the way they move and other things that just are.
However, there are also the things that can be adopted by anyone. When it comes to looking expensive, I'd say these things help:
Good quality fabrics, often natural fibres
Neutral colours, few patterns
Natural hair but well cut
Not much jewellery and not cheap high st ( or at least you can't tell if it is)
Good quality, leather shoes and bag
Clothes that fit. Any bulging, however slim you are doesn't look expensive
And I'm sorry to say, slim body

I think a lot of this is about maintenance: you don’t look expensive overnight- although overnight is important as you’ll have cleaned off your make up and put on whatever you use to nourish and repair your skin while you sleep.
Hair- well cut and looked after. Remember to treat sun damage from the summer and think about the impact of central heating- frizzy, dehydrated hair isn’t an expensive look.
Make up- changing foundation as your skin becomes paler.

I’m not too bad with maintenance. It has to be easy as I have a ten month old! And always go for natural everything as I don’t look good trying to look on trend!
I’m thinking of trying to adapt my current wardrobe for autumn with a bit of layering. My skin tone is autumn so if I stick to that colour pallet and get some good quality jumpers that should do. Does anyone have any recommendations?? Also for flat tan shoes. I don’t really do heels!
