I’ve dyed my hair too dark- can I fix it?

It’s a Home dye box. Natural colour is a mid-dark brown but I’ve been having foil highlights for the last year so it was mostly bleached. Can’t afford to keep highlighting it so I’ve dyed it what I thought would be close to my natural colour but it looks almost black.

will this lighten with washing?

I have just done the exact same thing! Watching with interest as my hair is now far too dark. I'm thinking I need to go back to my highlights!

When this happened to me I panicked & called my hairdresser - horribly I’d also only done it as a root touch up so had two tone hair (& not in a good way!). The advice & what fixed it was getting a very cheap bottle of vitamin c tablets, some dandruff shampoo & whizzing them up in the nutribullet (or you can do it with a pestle & mortar) - pasting onto dry hair & wrapping in cling film for a few hours. I know that sounds random but it took the worst of the dark out. Worth a go!

It will fade, but not by that much if it really does look black.

You could remove it with something like ColourB4?

Vit C

I did this , used a dye that was too dark, too purple .
I did the Vit C + some Superdrug H&S (you need a clarifying shampoo)

I thought it did nought , there was no colour bleed , not on towels, water or my pillowcases.
But it worked . I have brown hair again Xmas Grin

If you can , use a food pro , I crushed the tablets in a bag but they were still gritty .

(Theres a photo on another thread about hair dye)

Didn't mean to put a Father Christmas smiley - force of habit !

Glad it’s not just me willow!! Grin

Thanks chips! I’ll give that a go. If not i’ll go for the colour B4. I hate using that stuff but needs must.

This is my with dodgy dye ( pink top) and after Vit C (I used 20 high strength on my length)

The difference is amazing. My hair is not wrecked (I hope)
It doesn't smell like colourB4

It was a semi-perm done a couple of weeks ago.

ColourB4 can oxidise and darken if you don't rinse it completely .

( photos are real)

John Frieda do a lightening thing in their Brilliant Brunette range, might be worth a try?

WrongKindOfFace · 08/09/2018 21:33

I’m going to store that vitamin c tip away for when I inevitably fuck up my hair again. What a difference!

Does it wreck your hair?

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 08/09/2018 22:04

70 how long didn’t you leave it on your hair for?

OP posts:
HoleyCoMoley · 08/09/2018 22:08

How do you do the vit c trick, that's amazing.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 08/09/2018 22:09

It hasn't changed the texture of my hair. I used Elaticizer overnight after I did the VitC (I kept the Vit C on 2 hours or so, and I thought I'd need to do it again, but once it dried after rinsing , it was fine)

I've got a Bleach Londin mask and some Shea Moisture so I'm going to use those overnight as insrance,

Trouble is , I really want my hair to be auburn (but not purple ) but unless I do a permenant dye (I don't want to go back there) , henna ( I've used it before , couple of years ago - lovely colour , too much faff) or a wash in/wash out ( I'll be forever washing the shower curtain) .. I don't think I can have it.

chipsandgin · 08/09/2018 22:20

I did the vit c thing for about 4 hours (work from home thankfully as having your hair covered in paste and wrapped in cling film is quite the look!) - washed it out, also wondered if it had worked as there was no colour bleed but it totally did and didn't wreck my hair - it went a bit dry but I did a 3 minute miracle Aussie treatment on it & it was fine after. I used a whole bottle of the vit c tablets with enough dandruff shampoo to make it into a paste, that was all. However after that disaster I'll be staying away from the box dyes for a while now!

Thanks chips and 70
