Useful tops?

I have such a hard time finding tops to go under cardigans and jackets, etc. Tops that are smart enough for work and not see -through in case I get too warm and take my cardi off. But i like my clothes to be really comfortable.

I found this and think it's perfect in ivory but sadly sold out in my size www.marksandspencer.com/fold-front-v-neck-short-sleeve-top/p/p60157711?OmnitureRedirect=fold+front

Any ideas on where to get something similar preferably in ivory and dark grey?

Hey I had the same problem with a dress from m&s they sold out in my size I went into the store and they ordered it for me to come in . You could also try John lewis or h&m I know the quality isn't as good but it's less than half the price 😃

Thanks tiar. I will try in-store - I'm going to race back there anyway today after work to buy the last top they had in the size lower than mine that I tried on at lunchtime...and then will have an incentive to slim!

Managed to get the last one of the m&s ivory tops in another shop location in my size. It has a small makeup mark on it but it has come out in the wash and I got 10% off due to the mark.

It really is a nice top and is still widely available in black.

The trouble with h&m light-coloured tops is that they're usually see-through I find.

Anyone else with recommendations for useful (as opposed to statement) tops would be really appreciated. I don't k ow why such a basic item should be so difficult to find!

Bowden has ravello but they're soooo expensive plus I don't tend to look good in silky fabrics for some reason- they make me look a bit ill.

This is exactly what I am struggling with, I brought a coup;e from Uniqlo but unfortunately the neckline is a bit high for me but they are not see through and a nice material. I prefer a scoop or square neckline to go under jackets and cardigans so will be following with interest!

Whatsnewwithyou · 08/09/2018 07:18

stimpy1 would you be so kind and post a link to the Uniqlo tops you bought? Are they t-shirts or something with a bit of detail? I had a look at their website but wasn't sure.

Hopefully someone will be along at some point with some more recommendations for us!

Totally agree about tops and cardigans. I love cardigans, especially oversized cosy knit ones, buy them and then struggle to find anything to put underneath. A cami top can work well. I also have this top from Hush which actually works well underneath a cardigan as well https://www.hush-uk.com/m/widejerseytopcharcoalmarl.htm?trackterm=Wide+jersey - I have the dark green one and it works with a black or grey cardigan.

This kind of thing (this is not me - image from Pinterest)

I find Uniqlo the best shop for this kind of thing. The quality of the cotton is absolutely fantastic and they stay looking new forever.

Stormzyandme · 08/09/2018 09:02

Hush are quite good.

Whatsnewwithyou · 08/09/2018 20:05

Hush look good but are quite expensive. I don't mind spending £25 on a simple, basic top but £40+ seems over the top to me, particularly as I can be a messy eater and things get stained....☺

Personally I'd never put a cami under a jacket or a cardigan!
You would sweat directly on to the jacket or cardigan so you would have to spend a fortune on dry cleaning (or smell of stale sweat.....).
A simple cotton, breathable, machine washable much better and more comfortable.

Ellapaella · 08/09/2018 23:51

Nope I don't smell of sweat Hmm

Ellapaella · 08/09/2018 23:55

Good basic daily hygiene of showering and using deodorant prevents that. Perhaps you sweat more than the average if you can only wear certain materials, not so for me though.

Whatsnewwithyou · 09/09/2018 04:39

Haha everybody sweats, sorry but if you think that doesn't apply to you think again!

My problem with a lacy can under a jacket is that it looks like you've forgotten to put a top on and are going about in your underwear!

I do sweat but I don't smell as the other poster implied. Unnecessary, rude and bitchy.

lyinginthesundrinkingbubbles · 09/09/2018 09:33

Um no.
I simply stated why I would not wear a cami under a cardigan or jacket. As stated for all I know you might spend a fortune on dry cleaning.
You made all other assumptions yourself.
Hilarious you think someone can accuse someone of smelling without even meeting them. Get a grip.
