Lumea just not working for me. Where am I going wrong?

I bought a Lumea back in March and think it's either faulty or I'm using it wrong!

I've been using it on my bikini line, legs and chin and I honestly can't see much reduction in hair at all.

I fit all the criteria ie fair skin and dark hair. It says in the literature you should see a significant reduction after three uses but I'm six months in and can't really tell if there's much difference.

Any ideas?

Watching with interest because I'm disappointed with mine too! Like you, I have pale skin and dark hair and I have used it religiously every 2 weeks for about 8 months. I do have some bald spots here and there but there is no area where I can stop removing hair. I will stick with it through this Autumn and Winter and see what difference that makes but yes, disappointed so far

It Is disappointing but I wonder if like you I just have to persist with it.

You need to use it much more frequently than every two weeks at first until the hair is gone and then every two weeks to maintain it. I've almost completely got rid of my underarm hair with it. I shaved and then used it every couple of days for a couple of weeks, now I just do it once a week or two weeks and epilate the few stray hairs that come through. I'm going to do my bikini line next. I cba to do my legs I don't think! Too time consuming, but great for small areas

Lottapianos · 07/09/2018 07:44

Thanks Mini. Will try the every 2 days approach on my underarms and bikini line. It would helpful if they told you this in the manual! They definitely say every 2 weeks to start with, and then less frequently

Moussemoose · 07/09/2018 07:53

I've been using mine once a week (sometimes more) for 3 months.

My legs now have very little regrowth. Bikini line now has some but no where near as much. Underarms still have regrowth but it is about 50% less.

I will do it more frequently on my underarms.

I think it's brilliant and wish I'd bought one years ago.

Sallycinnamum · 07/09/2018 08:13

I hadn't thought of doing it more frequently to be honest. I'll give it a go.

Sorry if this isa windup if you’ve already got a lumea, but to those who are watching with interest, I got a SmmoothskinGold, and I’ve seen huge improvement with doing it weekly. I’ve not bothered over summer, but the smoothness has maintained.
I do find it a chore to do though.

Haffiana · 07/09/2018 18:04

Hmm. I used mine every 2 weeks for 2 months (ie a total of 4 times) and that was that - no more hair for 4 months. Did this last year, and again this year.

I would get in touch with Phillips, because the way it works means that doing it more often than every 2 weeks will not make it more successful. It works by turning off the growth cycle of the hairs.

It sound to me that your Lumea may be faulty.

Sallycinnamum · 08/09/2018 09:42

Yes that's what I wondered because I had one years ago before I bought this one and it did work fine in that my legs were hair free after a couple of goes with it.

I've done mine more frequently than every 2 weeks. I saw a significant reduction at first but it does take effort.

I read about the hair growth cycle thing. Surely not all hair cycles are the same though. Some people's hair grows faster than others!

Ohdobakeoffdear · 08/09/2018 09:51

How much time does it all take? I’m very interested but don’t have loads of time on my hands and definitely not willing to give up sleep Grin
If I wanted to do my legs, how long would you say one session takes (I’m of medium hairyness Grin)?

Moussemoose · 08/09/2018 11:11

About 20 mins to do my legs - perhaps more I've not timed it. I'm a bit slip shod though. The first few sessions took longer

I don't find it difficult or fiddly unlike waxing, it doesn't hurt unlike waxing, similar length of time to if I was doing a home wax, no rash which I got if I shaved.

My skin seems to be smoother as well.

I spent a reasonable amount of money each year on home waxing, occasional professional wax, razors in between waxes - it will save me money in the long run.

I have a tria which is the only one which completely gets rid of hair, been using it once a week for 8 months now and my lower legs only have a few hairs that grow back, but I thought I would be hair free by now, it's got a tiny area it treats skin so it takes bleeding forever, only prob is now my lower legs are smooth, the very fine tiny hairs on my upper legs bother me as they're more noticeable now.
At this rate I'll have to do my entire body!
underarms have been completely hair free since 3 months ago.

chickedychicked · 08/09/2018 11:16

Erm sorry I realise I haven't answered a question at all, instead just gone on a rant about my own experience Blush

Sallycinnamum · 08/09/2018 15:26

I rang Philips this morning. I don't know if they're fobbing me off but a big no no is using it on tanned skin and skin that is red from a bath or shower. I always use the Lumea straight after the shower and my skin has been tanned from the end of March when we went away for a few days to Majorca.

So I'll start again and see how I go.

I used it x2 per week on the highest setting on my legs. For three weeks. All hair gone.

I now use around. X1 per month.
