Anyone want to look at a photo of my spots and advise me?

My skin is awful just now. I don't think it was this bad even when I was a teenager.
It's red, spotty, feels a bit oily. Mainly just smallish spots but every now and again I feel a great big lump under my skin. It usually goes down after a few days, rarely erupts into a big spot.
I'd love to go and see a proper dermatologist or something but I'm not sure where I would find one. How would you know if they were any good?

I'm currently using clarins products but I'm not convinced the consultant had any idea what she was talking about. She went on about ground kangaroo flower and activating a chain of molecules. After 6 weeks I don't see any difference at all so it's time to try something different.

Suggestions welcome, I'm finding the whole thing quite depressing. I've always had really good skin.

Anyone want to look at a photo of my spots and advise me?

You could try an antibiotic from your gp in case it’s bacterial?

0teaandtoast0 · 05/09/2018 22:00

Go to the GP. I finally did the same after struggling with awful skin this summer and am now on antibiotics for adult acne which are really helping. Good luck!

Redteapot67 · 05/09/2018 22:00

Sudocream also quite good on spots and a lot cheaper than Clarins!

Firgoodnesssake · 05/09/2018 22:12

If there’s a liz Earle counter in any of your local stores why don’t you pop along And ask for samples of their cleanser, toner and moisturiser. Might be gentler on ur skin than clarins products

JDSTER · 05/09/2018 22:40

I would definitely advise seeing your GP. Your acne looks quite inflamed. Don’t waste any more time or money on over the counter products.
See what the GP can offer but you could enquire about a dermatologist. Dr Sam Bunting on YouTube has some videos on adult acne that might be of interest.

VanillaSugary · 05/09/2018 22:43

Dr Hauschka is very good for this sort of thing. Clarins probably has too much perfume for you at the moment. Go onto Trinny Woodall's YouTube blog where she talks about skincare products. She uses la Roche posey (probably spelled incorrectly but it's from Boots).

Try products for sensitive skin and try not to overload it at the moment.

wobblebot · 05/09/2018 23:10

Honestly, bar soap and nothing else. Made a huge difference to my skin that was not much different to yours.

fruitpastille · 05/09/2018 23:18

Antibiotics from gp worked for me. The oral ones were much better than topical ointment.

Knitjob · 05/09/2018 23:22

Really, you think I should see a go? The waiting list for appointments at ours is about 3 weeks long and you have to be at deaths door to get one.

What makes it acne and not just spots? I wish I understood what was causing it. It's so frustrating.

I went to my GP about spots earlier this year, I was prescribed DUAC cream, sorted it out really well !

RJnomore1 · 05/09/2018 23:26

Salycylic acid.

brillopants · 05/09/2018 23:37

I second salycic acid. La Roche posay does aone, it's really helped me

peppersprayfirstapologiselater · 05/09/2018 23:40

Another vote for GP. Doesn't matter about the wait, just make the appointment, mine is the same! X

RuleBreaker · 05/09/2018 23:45

Effaclar face wash and spot cream, and get yourself on the waiting list for your GP (Can't you ring up in the morning for a same day appointment?).

Effaclar changed my life!

endofthelinefinally · 05/09/2018 23:48

I think you need antibiotics.
Go and see your gp and see what they say.

Greeper · 05/09/2018 23:49

Might be rosacea. See GP

VanillaSugary · 06/09/2018 06:58

If you can bear it, let your skin breathe. So, minimum product and no make up for a while.

Phone the doctor. It might have cleared up in 2 weeks so take lots of photos as the chances of your spots coming back could be quite high.

The last thing you want is an infection which will lead to scarring.

championquartz · 06/09/2018 10:16

There's damn all difference between spots and acne. If you like, having ONE spot twice a year is 'spots', the rest is acne.
I can't see from your photo but I presume you have blackheads and/or whiteheads. You have papules and pustules.

The most effective way to treat this is to see your GP and be prescribed something. Th Efaclar range is good, but I think you need something a little more active.

pongopig · 06/09/2018 12:09

I wonder if your spots are caused by Rosacea? You could see a doctor/dermatologist. Personally, I found Acnecide cream to be a miracle, it cleared up spots on my chin that had been there for years and they never returned. You can buy it from Boots in the pharmacy section.

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/09/2018 18:36

I would see the dr. I'm booked in with mine too.

JumpedOverTheMoon · 06/09/2018 18:43

1tbs of Manuka honey ( a good one) mixed with 1/4 tsp of cinnamon, mix to a paste and use for 30 minutes 2-3times a week. Brilliant. Dermatologists know how good Manuka honey is and there's evidence for it so it's not just a hippie idea! X

Seniorschoolmum · 06/09/2018 18:50

Your skin looks very similar to mine.

I agree with firgoodnessake treat yourself to a tube of Liz EARLE. Use clean hot cloths every day. It cleared my skin completely in about two weeks.

pontiouspilates · 06/09/2018 20:28

I second Sudocrem (applied quite thick at night) but do also see your GP (could try the Sudocrem while you wait for your appointment?)

QueenofLouisiana · 06/09/2018 21:30

I’d also consider GP for rosacea. If that’s the diagnosis, ask about soolantra.
