Plus size gym wear

What is decent & comfy & preferably budget friendly?

Back to gym for an induction tomorrow after years of v little exercise & I've not much to wear so will have to get a few bits. I don't wear pink! 😬

I get tops from curvissa

Oly5 · 05/09/2018 21:34

M&S

CurlsandCurves · 05/09/2018 21:40

Sainsbury’s gym stuff is good.

There is a definite gap in the market, so many ranges only go up to 14/16. Because big girls don’t exercise, obvs. Does my head in.

buckeejit · 05/09/2018 21:47

Thank you-will go and have a look at these!

What size are you?

Decathlon does some larger sizes. M&S also has some good workout clothes.

ShotsFired · 06/09/2018 08:49

Second/third M&S - but do note they are a generous cut so you may need to go down a size! Sainsbury's seems to be selling more£ branded Russell Athletic stuff now, not so much of their cheaper own label stuff (although i did get a pair of longs in the sale recently, in advance of cooler weather)

I am also getting a lot of stuff off ebay. I recently spent about a tenner and got 2 pairs of wicking leggings and a technical top which was all either brand new or immaculate.

buckeejit · 06/09/2018 11:45

I'm size 22 right now. Off to local outlet &/will check m&s. Sainsbury's had nothing good. I'm more comfortable in trouser/slight bootleg cut bottoms as leggings look awful.

Have only worn fitflops all summer & just had induction & old trainers are a bit pinchy so may have to look at some trainers.

Thanks for the tips, will check eBay too

I know it sounds like a cliche, but honestly, nobody gives a fuck what you look like at the gym. I started my gym absolutely paranoid at how fat my knees were and wore track pants for that reason. After slowly realising nobody minded my knee fat apart from me, I switched to much more suitable leggings which don't flap about and get in my way or flop up when I am doing legs in the air stuff.

I have yet to listen to my own advice when it comes to clingy tops though Blush

Magicstar1 · 06/09/2018 14:35

I got some great stuff from Yours Clothing. I'm bigger than you, but have been doing yoga and their leggings are so much more comfortable.

Kintan · 06/09/2018 15:17

Primark have some good exercise wear in at the moment.

Weathergirl1 · 06/09/2018 15:38

Can't help from experience, sorry, but saw this today from the guy who founded Parkrun and I think he's got a point about making fitness clothing that's accessible to all no matter what shape they are:

contra-movement.com/

Might be worth keeping an eye out for more info as they get going!

buckeejit · 06/09/2018 18:46

Thanks-I know nobody at the gym will care but I'll need to wear it for school drop offs or maybe occasional pick up which would be worse & i'd feel weird.

Today the whole time I was in gym wear I had that 'active wear' song/vid going through my head!

Bought some emergency stuff in Asda & m&s today so will be raring to go tomorrow. Couldn't get to working out what sort of trainers to buy so some more research on that this eve!

Asos curve

dementedpixie · 06/09/2018 19:41

I get trainers from sports direct. I just try on and see what's comfiest. I use Adidas ones at the moment for classes. Curvissa doors some brands in bigger sizes e.g. I like the kangaroos ones and Adidas ones and wear 22/24 I think (big boobs!). I like Matalan cropped leggings but only need them in an 18.

buckeejit · 06/09/2018 20:30

Forgot about sports direct, will check there tomorrow 😃

OP posts:
ShotsFired · 06/09/2018 21:01

Don't forget sports direct have that no returns policy and exchanges are enough of a faff!

dementedpixie · 06/09/2018 21:19

You get an exchange or credit note. I've never had a problem exchanging at ours and there's nowhere else to try on shoes where I am

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 06/09/2018 22:51

I hate trying to find workout clothes. I got some from asos curve but they were pretty expensive. Puma leggings and a top.

PlentyOfBiscuitsWithTea · 06/09/2018 22:56

ASOS. And ive seen Callie Thorpe (plus size fashion chick on Instagram) reps for Nike I think...? Def a sports brand. If you find her I expect it links to stockists. Prob not budget though!! H&M do great workout stuff too xx

mikeTV · 06/09/2018 23:09

Sturdy by design have some great funky leggings that go up to a 24/26 I think. They also have tops.

The fat girls guide to running have an online shop that sells some stuff.

I've seen some stuff in simplybe and laredoute but not recently.

CurlsandCurves · 07/09/2018 13:06

mikeTV thanks for recommending sturdy by design, I’d never heard of them. Just placed an order, hope the stuff is as good as it looks!

CurlsandCurves · 10/09/2018 09:09

My 2 vests from sturdy by design have arrived and I’m very pleased with Them!

thismeansnothing · 10/09/2018 09:16

Sturdy by Design for leggings/capris/shorts
Don't go seethrough, nice large waistband, actually stay up, and awesome prints

miketv · 10/09/2018 10:14

Glad to hear it curls - their stuff is great!

WrenDouglas · 10/09/2018 11:37

I was going to recommend Sturdy by Design too, I've got 2 pairs of capris and a pair of their shorts.

For tops, I buy plain black crew neck t-shirts from Primark. They aren't technical fabric but I like the longer length fit and they go up to Size 20.
