HELP- severely dry skin on face!

For the last few months I’ve had severely dry skin on my face. Ive stopped wearing make up Mon-Fri (I work from home so rarely see anyone) as putting on concealer has become a massive chore due to the fact that 5 mins after I put it on, I look like I have eczema or something? It goes all dry and crusty Sad.

If I want to try and ensure this doesn’t happen then I have to scrub my face with an exfoliater, slap on some blue Nivea, Smashbox primer and hope for the best. Usually it works to a good extent but sometimes (like today!) not Sad

Can anyone recommend anything for this?

Sometimes I probably am a bit dehydrated which doesn’t help, but even if I down bucketloads of water it doesn’t really help. I cleanse, use a Nip & Fab dragon’s blood pad on my face each evening and moisturise morning and night religiously. I’ve always had quite dewy skin so am unsure why it’s always so dry nowadays! I’m not on any hormonal contraception!

Any ideas gratefully received!

Being nearly 40, I don't mind them!

This might be helpful:www.carolinehirons.com/2011/11/dry-or-dehydrated-cheat-sheet.html

I get really dry skin in the winter and what has helped me in the past is hyaluronic acid. I got mine for about £6 from The Ordinary.

Also if it doesn’t pass if you change up your skincare routine, a trip to the GP might be in order to rule out any skin conditions (eczema or similar)

Aveeno . My DD had some really painful dry areas either side of her mouth a couple of years ago and this totally restored her lovely skin.
Her poor little face was so sore , she couldn't wear make-up, any other cream stung and made it redder and she was desperate.

We tried Aveeno and it worked !

Thanks guys.

I went to Boots yesterday and bought some of the Euricen 10% (for night) and 5% for day moisturiser, and a few packs of a a hydrating face mask thing. I hadn’t thought of oil before moisturiser, that’s a really good idea, I’ll go back to boots today and get some facial oil too lol.

In terms of my routine, I never, ever cleanse with soap or anything harsh. If Ive had make up on during the day then I wipe off with a sensitive skin, alcohol and fragrance free Johnson’s facial wipe, then splash my face with warm water, pat dry with a towel, use a nip and fab pad and then moisturise. If I haven’t worn any make up that day, I just splash with warm water, pat dry with a towel, nip and fab pad and moisturise. In the mornings I just splash with warm water whilst in the shower and then moisturise.

In terms of the dragons blood pad, I’ve used them for 3.5 years now with no problems, they have made my skin so clear and bright, I always get complimented on my skin (that’s not a boast I promise Blush I just do) because it is very clear and bright. Except, up until a few months ago it was clear, bright and Dewy, now it’s clear and bright but looks dry if you get up very close.

I’ll carry on as I am with my new moisturisers, masks etc and if no improvement, I’ll cut out the nip and fab pad for a couple of weeks and if it then changes I know it’s that.

I’ll definitely go and get some oil this afternoon from boots to add in too.

Thanks guys, will keep you updated (bet you can’t wait Grin)

Definitely stop using the cleansing wipes - these are not good for your skin at all and will be contributing to the dryness.

You have made excellent choices with the Eurcerin products (all French pharmacy brands are excellent - also try Avene or LRP) but you do need a good cleanser.

I have recently been using the new Sam Bunting cleanser which is excellent and the best cleanser I have ever used but any balm type cleanser would be an awful lot better than facial wipes.

Also read the CH link another poster kindly gave you for some good skincare advice.

I have very, very dry sensitive skin. I started using The Ordinary Hydralonic Acid daily and am also using Squalene oil in the morning and Rosehip in the evening. It doesn't have to be The Ordinary, but it has made such a difference to my skin. Also, just make sure you are drinking enough. I tend to fill a big jug with water and keep refilling my glass at the evening goes on. I soon find it empties.

I use Sukin skin cleanser. Very moisturising and can feel the difference when I run out. It’s often on offer at Holland & Barrett.
