Smart(ish) clothes for a jeans and t-shirt lover

I'm looking for a bit of help.. In just over 2 weeks I have to go to an international trade show in Paris. I need to look smart - and preferably not frumpy. I'm really not a smart dresser, I wear jeans, t-shirts and hoodies. I don't often wear make-up, but can do it ok if I have to.

Can anyone give me any suggestions as to outfits I can wear where I'll still be comfortable and not feel weird by being too dressed up? And that aren't too expensive as I won't wear clothes like this very often.

For info I'm 5ft 4, between a size 14 and 16, apple type shape. Thanks in advance.

I'm very like you and also an apple.

I wear Adidas Stan Smith (buy new ones in white with the green, if you have a foot size 5 or under like me, buy the kids size as they are cheaper) all the time - so do the fashion designers and they are practical for a trade show - heels would kill you.

Then wear ankle length trousers - buy in navy or charcoal or grey or black - I always go for navy and grey as I hate black. Do not go for full length - I am 5 foot 3 and always wear cropped since I read that they highlight the skinniest part of a petite woman - her ankles!!!!

Try Gap or Zara M and S for the trousers and make sure they are a good fit and comfy.

Then wear a nice white t shirt, and a jacket - get one nice jacket either plain navy/black or pinstriped and wear this - you can remove it if you are running about or if its hot but you have it on your chair for throwing on for key meetings.

Hope this helps

Also, look on Pinterest and google Vogue Paris editors - they always wear jeans and blazers and look fab.

But remember - no high heels - the floors in those shows are pure concrete - I'm a veteran of years of international trade shows.
