Tricky - the weather could do anything. I went to a late September wedding a couple of years ago. It was in Wales; I figured the chances of it being really warm were slim so avoided summer dresses. I bought a turquoise shift from Hobbs which had sleeves that ended just above the elbow. I figured this was neither too summery nor too wintery, and I wouldn’t freeze if it was chilly.

It was a mistake! It was a warm day. The fitted style and those sleeves meant I sweated something chronic, both outside for photos in the sun and inside on the dance floor later. It’s not like I’m normally a very sweaty person either; it was just a really bad choice.

I would avoid anything too overtly summery (pastel florals, say) but would still choose something in a light fabric, strappy or loose fitting in case it is warm. Then I would team it with a good jacket, so that if it is cold, you can keep that on and stay warm enough.

Strong colours that cross the seasonal divide are your friend here.

Some suggestions:

Strappy navy Ted Baker:

Ted Baker teal tie waist:

Mint Velvet red lace:

Monsoon tea dress:

Any of these on the right track? It’s tricky without knowing your style or colouring. What sort of dress do you normally go for?
