Job Interview Outfit Help!

Hello all!

I potentially have a job interview this week after 5 years of being a SAHM, but I've just realised I don't really have any of my work wear left in the wardrobe!

I have a navy blazer, a stripy blue and white shirt and some blue ballet flats but that is all! At a push would the above pic be too casual? (My gut says yes)

If yes, I am looking for a something smart that isn't going to break the bank to see me through interviews and first month of work at least - so something that's quite easy to mix and match with.

I am size 12/14 on top and 14 on bottom. 5'10 tall. Blue eyes, brown hair. Suit simple classic style rather than patterns. I like pinks, blues, black and grey.

Thank you in advance all Flowers

What’s the job and is the office formal? What you’re wearing with a blazer and smart flats would be fine for most jobs I think but difficult to know for sure without knowing what the job is...

Also well done on the interview and good luck Grin

I liked all the suggestions.

Congratulations on the interview!

That looks very casual to me but I'm in law so it really depends what the interview is for. I had a job interview recently and got a smart grey blazer from new look very cheap and some black heels from M&S for about £20.

PurpleDaisies · 03/09/2018 16:31

It depends on the job. For a TA, that would be absolutely fine (provided the top isn’t too low, it’s hard to see). For a banker, not so good.

Good luck!

sourpatchkid · 03/09/2018 17:19

Personally I think the top is too casual. Can you get a white shirt with it?

FelixTitling · 03/09/2018 17:22

Smartworks might help you out depending on where you live.

sunshineseaside · 03/09/2018 17:23

It's a smart / casual office I would say... I would rather be dressed a tad smarter so I feel more "prepared". The top is just cotton and is a bit booby Blush so will go for something a bit higher cut, I think. Thank you for all the suggestions...will have a look this evening and make some strategic purchases!

I had an interview recently. Asda sell a plain black skirt for about £7 and a white cotton short sleeved blouse for about £4 in their work wear area. Black tights and low black shoes with a small heel (Sainsburys) .Everyone I bumped into on the way in said "wow, you look really smart" (I wonder how bad I must look usually Confused ). I got the job Grin

Unfortunately smart works not in my area though - looks like a fab idea though x

I think it works for the role you describe
Add a top with a slightly higher neckline and a blazer and you'll be fine
Good luck

Yay congrats @weaseisrising! Fab news.
Will check out ASDA tomorrow - they have changed the interview date so got a bit of space to prep!
