Can someone explain how you can do everything you need to do AND have long fingernails?

I've long wondered this but was left gobsmacked by seeing a Mum today with a baby and a toddler who had square French manicured fingernails? How on earth do you manage (a) to do anything vaguely child-related without gouging great chunks out of them; (b) to do any meaningful cleaning etc; (c) to write?

Think I'm probably showing my age here

But are they square? How do you manage not to catch your kids on them? Or am I just Mrs Clumsy

She probably has a lot of 'help'

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 06/06/2007 23:13

My fingernails are well groomed, longish & get a regular coat of paint.

I am a single parent, care for my father, who has dementia, & work full time.

I am as baffled as you are! Really do sometimes wonder how I find the time & whether my priorities are a bit skewed!

She certainly doesn't grow her own vegetables

Oh, I do that as well (vegetables).
My nails do a handy double-up as mini-trowels. They are often scummed up with soil (which just adds to my glamour, I feel)

Ewwww!

Oh I'm glad I'm not the only one! I mean, how do you put on Sudocreme for example?

essbee, I wouldn't hate you, I'd just marvel! How do you manage not to do your children a mischief on a regular basis??

With your knuckles!

I guess there's probably quite a lot you could do with your knuckles if you practiced

just born lucky

HuwEdwards · 06/06/2007 23:38

I am in my 40s and have always had quick growing strong nails. Had no 'help' through having 2 children (and I mean no help, not even dc's grandparents)

It's genetic.

I have long-ish manicured fingernails. I have them gel wrapped, which makes them harder, so never break. They don't get in the way of me doing anything at all.
