Lush Shampoo bars

So I'm thinking of moving to shampoo bars rather than the bottles to try and cut down on waste but looking at the lush website there seem to be loads to choose from! Which ones do you use?

Godiva. Smells like Jasmine and makes my hair lovely.

OhHolyJesus · 02/09/2018 14:48

The honey one and the coconut one but I have shifted away from Lush since learning about their politics (and support from Mermaids on here), so if interested you could try online stores (friendly soap, funky soap, Wild and sage and all natural soap) I have also found out about on MN. Lots more on the Ethical boards too x

Following as I'm also interested. Also how do you store them? Knowing my house full of boys one of them would end up using it in the bath

I have one, I do want to love it, but it doesn't actually clean my hair anywhere near as well as proper shampoo.

I haven’t used the lush bars, but have heard good things about them.

I currently use a nettle shampoo bar (for my sensitive, easily irritated, dandruff-y scalp Blush ) and coconut soap bar and a black foot scrub bar, all from Marie’s artisan handmade soaps. She’s based in Scotland but p&p was only £2.90 for the bundle and came two days later. She has several different types of bars available.

Just ordered a shampoo bar to try out - what do you do about conditioner? Carry on using the same conditioner or?

FelixTitling · 02/09/2018 18:49

I found them very harsh and they still use SLS. Left my hair very dry and scalp very itchy.

Great thread idea - I'll be looking at all the alternative suggestions too!

FelixTitling · 02/09/2018 18:50

I also tried the conditioners - but didn't rate them either! The combination of both left my hair in a terrible state.

Fairylea · 02/09/2018 18:51

I tried them and wasn’t keen. Lots of residue left in my hair no matter how many times I rinsed and eventually the bar went all soggy despite being in a special soap dish with a drain bit underneath. I wouldn’t buy one again. I do love lush stuff generally though.

I have the honey shampoo and jungle conditioning bar. Love them. I have little string bags (bought from eBay) made from body polisher/puff material and hang the up to dry

SmallestInTheClass · 02/09/2018 18:55

I found them OK, great lather but very drying so gone back to bottled for now. The conditioner bar I tried was rubbish! So, I've settled for justswapping shower gel for soap to save plastic. Shampoo will have to be bottled until I can find something better.

I like the samples from Juliet Rose for solid conditioners so far so good and I've just ordered some samples from Fresh Handmade Cosmetics to try them out too. Only £1 or so each and £1.22 for 2nd class delivery.

Worth trying a few out I'd say to see what suits as I've had a mixed reaction but any shampoo you don't like on your hair just use as a soap and maybe use liquid conditioner from lush or somewhere that takes the bottles back for a refill?

Plural · 02/09/2018 21:19

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll look at some of the other stores too and definitely pop over to ethical living. I didn't know it was a board!
