What do you think of these shoes?

On the advice of this thread I have bought some black cigarette trousers from H&M to wear for work. I really want some brogues to wear with them but black brogues make me feel like I am wearing school shoes. I thought oxblood would be nice and found these - what do you think? Are they okay for work? They are a bit outside my comfort zone so I'd appreciate any views. My other option was tan/brown but I'm not sure they don't look a bit casual with black trousers.

Vagabond do a lovely burgundy brogue, I think it is suede though rather than leather. I also love the Rogue Matilda brogues, although they are £££. I may or may not be browsing Hamble Oak brogues on Amazon now... 😁 I don't live in the UK but I found some good brogue brands on Amazon.

Don't buy loafers. Personally they remind me of an old persons shoes. Sorry! Brogues all the way.

mayathebee · 01/09/2018 22:06

I've just found these. They are leather and the colour is nicer but I'm not sure if I like the style as much. I've looked at too many pairs now. I think I'll leave it and order them in the morning.

VioletWillow and SuperstarDJ - I'll check those out, thanks.

ConkerTriumphant - that's reassuring. They sound gorgeous.

SD1978 Love those mod shoes.

mayathebee · 01/09/2018 22:08

SD1978 - they are lovely! I'm finding lots of great new shops and sites.

Never - thanks. I like the colour but I'm not keen on the sole.

I have a pair of clarks hamble oak and they are lovely. Not sure if they do them in oxblood anymore but I have them in lots of colours!

VioletWillow · 01/09/2018 22:10

SD1978 I love the Mod shoes site! I have bookmarked that for a second look. I am talking myself into needing the stomper and the vintage suede green brogues... heavenly!

neveradullmoment99 · 01/09/2018 22:10

I know what you mean @May about the sole. I do like the mod ones though. Lovely.

neveradullmoment99 · 01/09/2018 22:13

and I take it back about the loafers as I love these but these are an exception:

Racecardriver · 01/09/2018 22:16

They look fine but I would encourage buying a better quality pair. If you look foyr sonething that I high quality leather and elegantly made then it won't feel like school shoes.

neveradullmoment99 · 01/09/2018 22:18

cheaney the ultimate in brogues

mayathebee · 01/09/2018 22:18

Never - I agree about the Mod ones and the loafers. I am very jealous of your oxblood hamble oaks.

neveradullmoment99 · 01/09/2018 22:19

I have cheaney Olivia boots and they are amazing. So beautiful and last and last.

neveradullmoment99 · 01/09/2018 22:20

The hamble oaks are extremely comfortable. I have wide feet and bunions and they are great. They still do them in black patent. They are lovely too and they look nice and neat on.

FabulousTomatoes · 01/09/2018 22:25

I posted this thread the other day - I’m tempted by a pair of oxblood brogues here:

Loafers aren't 'old people shoes'

Are these any good OP? Similar colour to the ASOS but don't have the brogue 'pattern'

neveradullmoment99 · 02/09/2018 12:51

Sleep They tend to be where I live.
Although if you read my post beneath that one it did say I take it back but only as long as they are funky loafers.

neveradullmoment99 · 02/09/2018 12:52

...and I am technically an 'old' person @50 but wouldn't wear loafers unless funky and chunky.

neveradullmoment99 · 02/09/2018 12:54

...and before anyone bites my head of I am saying old about myself, not anyone else at 50.

SleepingInYourFlowerbed · 02/09/2018 13:24

It's still not true Never even for ones you personally don't think are 'funky'

Lucked · 02/09/2018 13:30

I bought a pair of similar patent shoes from ASOS (derby's not brogues) and they cut my feet up so much I couldn't wear them
