Just sayin’..... Eat porridge for glowing skin!

Having seen the near miraculous effect a daily bowl of porridge has had on my 18yr old son’s acne, I’m wondering what it might do for me. So, with that in mind, I’ve taken to daily organic porridge made with soy milk. Soy has an ingredient which promotes healthy levels of oestrogen production (I’m on HRT) and is good for the fine lines on the skin. But.....it curdles. In tea/coffee it advises to let the water cool to prevent this but, it still curdles. Anyone have a tip? I do want to continue with it.

I’ve also started using Aveeno Cream WITH COLLOIDAL OATS (often recommended on here for skin conditions) and have to say....I think oats are pretty fantastic and have had a better effect for me than my Lloreal and No7.

Aveeno is miraculous stuff - I always have it with me. Oats are full of soluble fibre and pre biotics. I don't like soy milk thou, the way it's produced or manufactured and a lot has loads of sugar in it.

Could you eat "overnight oats" so it doesn't get heated up?

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 29/08/2018 17:26

I can't drink soy milk because it makes me burp. Uncontrollably. For flipping ages.

Great tip! I do like porridge but don’t have it often as DS complains it makes him too full.
Will have to try and have it more regularly.

Could it be the effect on his skin was also to do with not eating sugary cereal? Just wondering whether the effect is definitely due to the porridge or reduced sugar intake.

Agree
I eat porridge with water and milk plus frozen blueberries and powdered cinnamon and it is just great and filling and cheap.

rightknockered · 29/08/2018 19:02

I've started using Aveeno recently. It's amazing stuff

Luxembourgmama · 29/08/2018 19:11

Use oat milk?

vapourtrail · 29/08/2018 20:01

I eat porridge oats with oat milk and love it, if I try it with ordinary milk now I find it tastes so bland in comparison.

EnidButton · 29/08/2018 20:12

Oat milk and Almond milk are both good for making porridge. If you want to add a bit extra then some coconut cream mixed in is very nice, especially with blueberries on top.

Oddly the last few times I've had porridge (with almond milk and nothing else) I've had a small break out the next day or two. So it's put me off. I need to test it properly though as I love a big bowl of porridge in Winter. Nothing like it.

Oatmeal porridge with hazelnut milk! (Plus water. And nutmeg. And linseeds. And a grated apple. And salt.) Food of the gods.

I do have fairly glow-y skin ...

I love oats. I have it with peanut butter or sliced banana + Milk

ChishandFips33 · 29/08/2018 20:32

Porridge with water and I chuck a sliced banana in

Also love Aveeno!

If it's a massive ball ache, spirulina capsules sort your skin out within a month.

AuntyJackiesBrothersSistersBoy · 29/08/2018 21:25

Okaaay. Oat milk. Will need to try. And spirulina.

Nice to know so many people embracing the oats. My mum was always banging on about it but I’d have it every now and then and forget about it.

My son has previously been a Marmite on toast boy. The ONLY thing that’s changed in his diet is the oats,

I make my porridge with water.
Remove from heat and stir through a huge dollop of Alpro soya plain yogurt. Delicious.

ProseccoPoppy · 29/08/2018 22:49

Another vote for oat milk if you can’t/would rather not have dairy.

Personally I like mine made with whole milk, with either raspberries or grated apple and cinnamon. Or occasionally for a treat peanut butter (has to be the 100% peanut one, nothing with palm oil). I’d always had porridge made with water or skimmed milk until I had DD, started making it for her with whole milk - yummy, creamy, still pretty low fat overall and keeps me full for longer.

thefirstmrsdewinter · 30/08/2018 01:35

If I remember correctly you can heat soya milk and it doesn't curdle if it's hot. Maybe chuck in the microwave for 10 seconds? Or Oatly or that coconut stuff are pretty good.
