As I'm getting older, I find that the more sheer and natural looking my make up is, the better I look. And these also tend to be creams rather than powders. So I'm on the hunt for good products.

My own recommendations for things that I would buy again are;

Dior Addict Lip Glow
Dior Addict Nail Glow
Bourjois "Blur the lines" concealer. Great for under eyes
Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector
Bourjois CC cream

What does everyone else use?

Chantecaille Illuminator, very sheer, subtle highlighter.
Ere Perez lip stains, like both the pink one and the red one.
Pixi lipglosses have a wee bit of sparkle but not full on glitter.

Are these these the lip tints Conquest?

That’s them

TheOnlyAletheia · 27/08/2018 11:30

Those look interesting - the reviews say that they say put. Do you use them in your cheeks as well?

OP posts:
TheConquestOfHappiness · 27/08/2018 11:41

Yes, I do, especially the pink one. It gives a nice slightly flushed look. The pink one is very good for a daytime look. I tend to use the red one more at night, sometimes with a little bit of gloss over to add some gold flecks and a wee bit of highlighter on the cheekbones. So it’s not that the red one doesn’t work well on cheeks, it’s more that I’m going in a different direction with the look.

I suppose that’s a long way of saying they are very versatile!

Same company does an eye pencil in slate, which is a nice way of adding some subtle definition without going full on cat flick.

TheConquestOfHappiness · 27/08/2018 11:48

I would say both of those are colours that are good for warm toned skin. There is one by 100% Pure (it’s one Naturisimo too) that I tried too. It was a good stain, but it was more cool toned, so it wasn’t for me.

TheOnlyAletheia · 27/08/2018 11:53

That's great, thank you. I'm warm toned too.

Being very nosy now, what do you use for a base?

OP posts:
TheConquestOfHappiness · 27/08/2018 12:14

At the moment, I have a Pacifica Transcendent concealer I use if I have a blemish or redness.

Have a wedding coming up soon, so going to try to find a base product. So I’m will go to the Chantecaille counter at SpaceNK to try some foundation.

Also I sometimes use Juice Beauty’s Oil Free moisturiser spf 30. They do tinted versions of that so if the Chantecaille thing doesn’t work out I might try one of those.

I have used Pacifica B.B. and CC creams before and liked them, I just only use base to cover up blemishes or for big occasions, so they’re just not a product I have much call for.

If you decide to try the Ere Perez tint, Lovelula give you 10% back in loyalty points.

Biologifemini · 27/08/2018 13:06

Try erborian for skin tints
I use the cc cream around my eyes and the B.B. cream on nose and I don’t need anything else.
Try a non black eyeliner. I like bronze or khaki.
A tubing mascara is subtle and doesn’t give the murdered spider look

TheOnlyAletheia · 27/08/2018 15:00

I've never used a tubing mascara but will try - any recommendations for a particular one?

OP posts:
TantricTwist · 27/08/2018 16:52

I love the murdered spider look Grin it lifts my eyes brilliantly.

I love my Nars Tinted Moisturiser perfect for my 40+ skin.

Biologifemini · 27/08/2018 20:09

No7 gold tube
Curl lashes first then apply
Murdered spider has its place mind
Just at 9am

RaspberryFlump · 27/08/2018 21:14

Boots no7 intelligent foundation - more of a skin tint than foundation
Erborian CC cream - only for the summer when I’ve got a tan though
Bobbi Brown dark plum eye shadow used as a upper eyeliner - recommend by Nadine Baggot and brilliant!

TheOnlyAletheia · 27/08/2018 21:30

These are great thanks. I’ve headed down the rabbit hole of erborian and bought the cc cream.

The Nars Tinted Moisturiser sounds great and I’m drooling over Chantecaille - just as well that I don’t have a Space NK nearby. I’d be broke.

Is there such a thing as a non glittery liquid/cream bronzer?

Chanel Vitalumiere foundation is excellent.

Cantthinkofnameargh · 27/08/2018 21:44

I like-

-Lancome cushion blush
-mally face defender - don't like powdered look so takes away shine without powdering

  • Armani crema nuda tinted moisturising cream
Mominatrix · 27/08/2018 21:48

I love the Dr Perricone no makeup makeup range - very sheer, natural, and lightweight.

Bellabluea · 27/08/2018 21:50

I love bare minerals tinted moisturiser. It gives me a lovely glow!
Also use my naked palette to death!

Cantthinkofnameargh · 27/08/2018 21:51

Also forget to add if you can find the right shade makeup for ever life concealer is magical under the eyes...I've never found a concealer like this- it doesn't crease under eyes....shame they don't do more shades as I can't quite get the right match for me

TheOnlyAletheia · 27/08/2018 21:56

These are all great. Keep them coming 🙂

Oh not another 'help I'm over 40 ' thread!

You are still YOUNG!

Honestly, unless your skin is terribly lined, you can use almost anything you did before.

The trick is in the application.

I am way beyond 40, but I have no wrinkles thanks to daily high spf sunblock for the last 25 years.

I use Bobbi Brown mainly- eye shadow, blusher, eyebrow stuff, eye liner, concealer (the one in a wand which is illuminating), lippie ( the glossy nourishing on), Illuminating powder - really fine and no glitter, Dior Star foundation and Lancome mascara.

I use pale taupe/ grey shadow, coral blusher, peachy-pink lippy.

They do great makeovers if you make an appt.

TheOnlyAletheia · 28/08/2018 07:24

This isn’t a “I need to head towards beige slacks thread” and yes 40 is young and you should look however you want to, whatever age you are.

My choice is to look less “made up” - some makeup looks too harsh now for me - I look better, with the appearance, if not the reality, of less makeup. Thick formulations don’t really work for me any more. There appear to be lots of products that posters use (some specifically designed for older skin, some not) that are better.

I’m really glad that you can still use any products 🙂 but that’s not the case for all of us.

As I'm getting older, I find that the more sheer and natural looking my make up is, the better I look.

What I was saying is you have made this an age issue rather than a preference for how make up looks AND the state of one's skin. It's ageist to make it all about age ' ie 'being 40'.

I've always gone for a sheer and natural look anyway as do loads of women.

Make up that is trowelled on (like most young teens seem to do- thick , matte, dark foundation that masks everything) is not a good look at ANY age! THICK foundation is awful for most women but for some reason teens/early 20s seem to think it's great.

I think it would be better to talk about what's best for lined skin if you feel it's an age-related issue.

I've never gone for a full slap look but I do use lots of products to give a natural, no make up look! I think the mistake some women make is not moving with the times with their make up. eg some still hang onto the black kohl top and bottom lids (which is ageing anyway), or loads of contouring which looks ridiculous.
