Parlux vs Babyliss Hair Dryer?

Hi

I've been looking for a new hair dryer. I've narrowed down to getting either a Parlux 3500 Super Compact Hair Dryer (£70) or a BaByliss 6421BDU Diamond Hair Dryer (£30). The latter was voted the best hair dryer in the Good Housekeeping Guide, and is substantially cheaper.

Which one would you go for?

I bought that parlux. Personally I don't see the gain and would in future follow best recommendations within a more reasonable price bracket.

I have a Parlux, I think the same one. I have very thick unmanageable hair and the Parlux has been a game changer for me. I can now get good results only using a round brush and my dryer. Previously I would need to blowdry, and then go over it all with GHDs, the Babyliss Big Hair or at the least a heated ceramic straightening brush to make it look ok. Unless funds are really an issue, I can't ever see myself gambling on a cheaper dryer again.

But if your hair is generally compliant anyway and you can do a good blowdey yourself with almost any dryer , then the cost of Parlux is overkill. So depends on your hair and your skills I guess. For me, Parlux is worth every penny.

Definitely the Parlux. I have mine still working 13 years later. I use mine every day without ever using GHDs. My daughters uses it regularly as well. I’ve bought the blue 40th limited edition ones last year only because I wanted to. Will never use a different one again and I take mine wherever I travel because it’s so lightweight.

@sycamore54321 thanks. I can't blow dry, have small hands and short arms and find it hard to reach over and always find hairdryers too long.

@FairyFuckDailyMail which version do you have?

I have a parlux 385 Ionic& ceramic. At first I found it heavy but got used to it. I love it dries my hair in half the time.

ggirl · 26/08/2018 19:24

I have the parallax compact one ..it's been going for over 10 years but no idea if it's better than the newish lower priced ones.
I know when people visit and borrow it they are v impressed with it .

I only use it on the low setting now as since menopause my hair is ridiculously curly so only use it with a diffuser.

ggirl · 26/08/2018 19:24

parlux ffs

EnidButton · 26/08/2018 19:43

This is going to be no help but I have a babyliss hair dryer and a parlux and I use both. The parlux takes too long to dry my (thick slightly wavy) hair so I dry it with the babyliss which is quick and seems more powerful. Then I finish it off with the parlux because it has done magical properties that get rid of any rough or frizzy bits and smooths it all out.

That said I would sway towards the Parlux as the way it makes my hair feel smoother and calms the post wash frizz is unbeatable. It is heavier though and mind is the compact I think. It's a lovely shiny red colour too.

For anyone who doesn't want to spend that much on a dryer, babyliss do the best ones imo.

EnidButton · 26/08/2018 19:44

But in your case I'd say Parlux.

See? Not much help. Grin

Nearlyadoctor · 26/08/2018 19:48

Just to throw a spanner in the works have a look a time Diva. I’ve had both Babyliss and Parlux in the past and Diva surpasses both. Otherwise easily Parlux over babyliss.

LeavingInk · 26/08/2018 21:22

@EnidButton thanks! Is your babyliss one an anti-frizz ionic one? I have thick hair too and speed is quite key for me too

@Nearlyadoctor which diva do you have?

Nearlyadoctor · 26/08/2018 22:07

Its an Ultima5000Pro.

LeavingInk · 27/08/2018 10:27

I don't know what to get now! So confused :(

OP posts:
Nearlyadoctor · 27/08/2018 10:49

Diva dries quickly if that’s a factor.

LeavingInk · 27/08/2018 11:05

@Nearlyadoctor thanks! Smile

In what specific way would you say the diva surpasses the parlax?

Dries my hair quicker and seems more controllable and doesn’t leave my hair quite so static ( my hair is always static when the weathers cold). It’s comfortable to hold if slightly heavy by some standards. I also tried a GHD one about 4 years ago and hated it, I thought it would be the dogs ......... as I loved my straighteners so much.

Fatted · 27/08/2018 11:32

If you struggle to blow dry your hair have you considered a hot air styler rather than a hair dryer? I got one recently and it's an absolute game changer for straightening my hair.

LeavingInk · 27/08/2018 13:03

@Fatted I tried a babyliss roller one a good few years ago and just didn't get on with it at all. But this was a good few years ago. Which one do you have?

OP posts:
Fatted · 27/08/2018 15:26

Mines a Nicky Clarke one. It doesn't rotate. It's just like brushing my hair with a large brush and hair dryer, but without the hair dryer. It makes it so much easier to blow dry my hair and I probably could get away with using it without straightening it, but I like my hair super sleek!
