Mmm. Just cleaned out my makeup basket...

... and ordered replacement things. Boring I know, but so satisfying. Getting rid of old brushes and makeup, threw away things I've tried but not liked. Stocked up on line so will have to wait for delivery but thankfully my makeup is minimal so £100 covered it. Also gave the white plastic tub itself a proper wash. Mmm.

Congratulations. Jealous.

I suffer badly from the "it might come in useful one day" hoarder syndrome as in

BRAIN: look at this hideous silver nail polish I was given as a random birthday gift several years ago. I don't like it and I'll never use it. I should throw it away.

VOICE IN HEAD: But what if you need to go to a fancy dress party as a robot? It might come in useful. Or the nephews/nieces might like it to play with. Or it might become highly fashionable. You should keep it.

BRAIN: OK I will keep it.

Must be the weather. I did the same with make up, hair stuff, old skin stuff and clothes. Feels like I'm nesting for autumn lol

dudsville · 26/08/2018 14:39

Cage, I also took a bag of clothes to charity yesterday, organised my drawers and wardrobe and cleaned and organised my shoes. It's the season.

Candid, I'm the opposite. I'm keep things around for a few months, maybe a year, but that's it. If you ever do need to go to a fancy dress as a robot surely you'd need new polish anyway!

I was brutal a few months ago and dumped most stuff. I wear minimal make up anyway, but had kept stiff for no good reason for years! Blush

I did my biannual clear out last week, prompted by some new make up purchases and a new bottle of perfume. Having a good sort through, cleaning and organising what's left is so satisfying. Makes me feel like I've got my shit together no matter what else is going on.

Agree it's like an Autumn/Winter nesting thing. Think it's a call back to Back to School organising.

I've even bought a new chair and light for my dressing room. So everything else has to be spotless before I put them in. 😁

Lottapianos · 27/08/2018 07:39

I'm doing a clear out of clothes, shoes and make up tomorrow. Really looking forward to it. I'm pretty ruthless at chucking stuff and it's just so satisfying to be able to clearly see exactly what you have and what you need

VanillaMapleSyrup · 27/08/2018 08:47

What are the time limits for make up? I've got some Bobby Brown powder eyeshadow that I've had for 3 years.

Vanilla, I don't know, but you've reminded me that my clear out was prompted by discovering my mild under arm rash might have been caused by, certainly wasn't helped by, out of date deodorant. Urgh.

Also I've realised I end up keeping eye shadow pallets so long because of the many pots of powder in them, but that I mainly use only a few, so I've purchased 2 single colour pots of a much fancier brand than I would normally go for and will throw away my pallets when they arrive - no idea how old they are. I've also got new eye shadow brush and tweezers coming, as well as a tool for blackheads that always felt like an extravagance before.

Vanilla I think a powder product isn't so strict when it comes to expiry dates. So long as you're using a clean finger or clean brush it should be ok. That's just my feeling though. Liquid products you can tell when they're past their best. I read that you should change your mascara every 3 months but I just use mine until it's either used up or dried out. Lipglosses can go bad relatively quickly.

Although this says a year for lipgloss
and 4-6 months for mascara so what do I know Grin www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.cosmopolitan.com/uk/beauty-hair/makeup/advice/amp39986/guide-to-makeup-expiration-dates/

Candid Lol.

Enid Super jealous of anyone who has a dressing room.

I had makeup baskets until New Year when I went to WH Smith and got those drawer organisers. Now everything has it's own drawer. 7

Really recommend:

That feeling when new make up arrives and you can pop in in a clean make up box/bag/tub 💕

EnidButton · 27/08/2018 12:56

Especially if the packaging is extra nice. Sucker for some glossy packaging and a nice lid click.

user It's the smallest bedroom really. I pinched it for myself and have a wall of pax wardrobes, big floor mirror and a dressing table. Dressing room sounds fancier though. Grin

EnidButton · 27/08/2018 13:02

Which ones did you get user?

I've got an Osco acrylic stand on my table for the stuff I use regularly. A mini drawer set for lipsticks and a pot for my brushes. You can buy them from John Lewis but the exact same ones are much cheaper from Amazon or Ryman's. Quite a solid chunky plastic.
