Mole removal

I have a large raised mole /bump near my eyebrow and another slightly smaller near my nose. I think they're looking worse with the age and starting annoy me now.

Any tips on where to look to have them removed? Not sure if it's medical matter or cosmetic salon thing.

Ooh nothing to add but definitely watching.

Ask your gp. My gp does a Thursday afternoon clinic where he removes moles.

Otherwise ask for a recommendation to a dermatologist. I went to a spire clinic before I got married and had a few facial moles removed. I think you can just ring up these days without a referral.

It’s not a salon job. Sometimes they shave off the mole/bump and sometimes they cut it out and you need stitches. It depends.

Thanks soul. Do you mind me asking how much it cost?

It was on the nhs with the gp and maybe £250 privately but that was some time ago. It’s usually an initial consultation of approx £125 then the op.

A relative has just been here. She had a large raised mole removed from her upper lip and it cost £275. Extra moles are another £75 each.

She sent them photos beforehand and had a consultation over the phone. It was done by laser and we were in and out in 20 minutes. The results are excellent, she's been left with a small pinky white mark, and it was only done a month ago.

I had one taken off my back by the GP recently. They do a clinic once a month. It has left quite a noticeable mark but that maybe because it was quite a big mole. Perhaps a dermatologist would do it better though.

joliejoleen · 26/08/2018 11:52

I had one on my nose. My GP referred me to a clinic and they got rid of it within 5mins. I told my GP my DS kept scratching it (which was true).

joliejoleen · 26/08/2018 11:52

And it was free, btw.

I’ve got one right under my bra line that rubs on it and sometimes really itches-I think it’s getting bigger, too. Would that be able to be removed on the NHS.

Mumteedum · 26/08/2018 12:35

Holiday.. Def go to gp. I only thought mine wouldn't be medical because it doesn't bother me physically however my bro had one removed on his face by gp and it was a bit rough. As mine is near my eye and right in middle of face I'm keen to have it done well iyswim

I had to go to the local hospital for mine, although in actuality I had mine done at a private plastic surgery.
That may have been because It was a possibility of it being a skin cancer, it wasn't though

goose1964 · 26/08/2018 12:49

Holiday mine was itchy as hell and had grown .I had it removed with a month of going to the GP

Ellapaella · 26/08/2018 12:50

OP if is in a delicate place that may be hard to remove without scarring surrounding areas your GP may recommend referring you to plastics to have it done (privately or even NHS). I would speak to your GP first and see what they recommend, explaining that you are prepared to pay if necessary. Your GP may recommend someone in particular that they know is good.

BettyBotter · 26/08/2018 12:50

I've just had this done. (3 large facial moles). GP said they couldn't do it because the moles weren't suspicious. One of them (on my neck) rubbed against clothes and was sore but this wasn't sufficient reason for them to be removed on NHS.

GP advised me to go to a private dermatologist not a beauty clinic dermatologist and I went to a Nuffield Hopsital.

Nuffield had to have a GP referral (so I then had to go back to the GP and ask for the referral.)

The cost was nearer two grand (including consultations pre and post op and sending of tissue for analysis).

I don't regret doing it and paying through the nose for a moment.

Northernlass99 · 26/08/2018 14:04

I had a large one removed from my chin. Went to a plastic surgeon at Spire and it cost about £500. No way I would be letting a GP have a go and I didn’t want it lasered as that can leave a flat mark. I am so glad I did it, no scar at all. I think you wouldn’t regret getting it done privately.

newsfromnowhere · 26/08/2018 18:54

I had a mole removed from my back by GP and it got infected so I ended up on antibiotics and with a scar. In retrospect I would rather have paid and had it done in sterile operating theatre/hospital environment.

sycamore54321 · 26/08/2018 19:35

Another vote to say let nobody short of a plastic surgeon at it if it is in a prominent position on your face.

I had some removed from less prominent areas by a great plastic surgeon and the scars are as good as could be but still noticeable.

QueenoftheNights · 26/08/2018 23:00

GPs rarely do this now due to cuts (ha ha) and i went to a plastic surgeon- local private hospital- for one on my lower lip.

This was about 7 years ago. Perfect job. had 3 stitches ( mole was tiny- less than 2mm across) . No scar at all ever.

Paid around £500 inc histology.

QueenoftheNights · 26/08/2018 23:03

ps you cannot say that laser will be effective for everyone. It depends on the mole . Using laser you cannot send it for histology so a surgeon would avoid laser for that reason sometimes.
