Thinning hair is ruining everything!

I have always quite liked dressing up, trying new styles etc but unfortunately I am now losing my hair - a lot. I already have a high forehead which suited a fringe but most of my hair loss is at the front so my fringe has just disappeared. I feel really down about it and feel like there is no point in even trying as a lot of the time my hair is bringing me down. I don't even know why I am posting this tbh, but I would love to know if anyone has overcome this problem (not the hairloss which is impossible but the fixation on it). I would like to try hair bands / scarves to cover up the front of my head but this is really hard to incorporate into the smart clothes I have to wear for work. Basically I don't know wear to start - a hijab would be perfect but it would be a bit strange to suddenly adopt! Any advice welcome.

Wouldn’t underplay, obviously!

I remember seeing a programme a few years ago about a woman whose hair was thinning at the front. She had a weave sewn in. It looked fantastic and lasted ages. Might be worth a google

A colleague at work has had alopeoia for years. She goes to Lucinda Ellery regularly and her hair looks fab and really natural.

@ilovecherries you look amazing. Hero.

@Kewqueue and cherries, what did you not like about minoxidil? I've got some at the moment it's been 2 months and no effect, might as well be water. But it was 'prescribed' to me. Might buy some proper stuff, which brand were you using? (I know 2 months isn't much but I'd expect at least a vague difference by now).

Kewqueue · 27/08/2018 07:59

Skimble - I tried it for 6 months and couldn't see a difference - if anything it got worse which is apparently a side effect! Mine was prescribed (abroad) so not an OTC brand.

I bought the high strength rogaine, it used to be prescription only at that strength for women, but you can now buy at pharmacy counter. It made the little tufts I had like straw and it made me grow hair on my bloody FACE. That just seemed like an irony too far for me. I used it daily for 6 months. I did see some fine, downy regrow this but it never got past the baby hair stage before falling out - so the hair cycle was far too short to grow any useful hair. Within 10 days of stopping using it, all the new hair was gone. The hair on my face disappeared within about 6 weeks.

Has anyone had any good results with nourikin or Har Vokse?

Skimbleskanks · 27/08/2018 18:34

Thanks I'll give it a try - it must work for someone, right, or they wouldn't sell it? Annoying about the facial hair. Insult to injury!

I'm taking iron at the same time as my ferritin was low. And taking hair skin and nails. I assume your bloods didn't show anything? @user1485342611 nourkrin is SO expensive, does it actually have anything different than cheapo hair skin and nails?

ASou · 27/08/2018 22:53

Nourikin = snake oil

Skimbleskanks · 28/08/2018 10:40

@ASou thank you for confirmation! I think the extra cost just goes on advertising!
