Mosquito bites

Not really style but affecting how I look as they’re so hideous. And itchy. Any tips? I forgot my Avon oil and have paid the price with welts the size of coffee cups on my legs. Not sure I managed the “ linen and tan sandals “ chic look with these babies on my body this holiday!

You need an antihistamine tablet

auberginesrus · 23/08/2018 14:35

Anti histamine tablets and some hydrocortisone cream. And time, mine take ages to heal up Sad

Polkapjs · 23/08/2018 16:24

Thanks. Got both and trying not to scratch.

I feel your pain OP, I'm the same on holiday Confused If you can get it Savlon do a bite cream which contains a numbing agent to help stop the itching. Then as others have suggested a daily antihistamine tablet so hopefully when you're next bitten your body won't react so enthusiastically!

Ill be on vitamin B complex before I go next time too. Calming down a bit now but god. The marks. My legs look shit

I douse them in lavender oil
It stops the itch and them spreading

lightlypoached · 24/08/2018 21:46

Got a tip on here 3 weeks ago and it works like a miracle!

Use a hairdryer on them - hot setting until they really sting. Do it 2-3 times on each bite. The itch will go and the bites are gone in a much shorter time.
Revolutionised my recent holiday. Grin

Germolene has local anaesthetic in it. I fin£ Eurex cream the best for the itch

Polkapjs · 24/08/2018 22:34

Ooh. I have germolene and a hairdryer!

Not helpful here but future tip FWIW I read somewhere to take a garlic tablet each day whilst on holiday to avoid getting bitten - no idea if just coincidence but fir the last couple of holidays I have done this and no bites

Itchytights · 24/08/2018 23:36

Put hot water on a spoon. Place spoon over bite but not on skin. Leave for a bit.
Apparently, the heat draws out the protein from the bite thus drastically reducing the itching.
Not tried myself as it’s something I’ve recently heard but it’s meant to work.

DeltaG · 25/08/2018 00:46

Sympathies OP! Mine turn into blisters that then burst and become sores. I still have scars from when I lived in Malaysia 10 years ago.

Feliciaxxx · 25/08/2018 00:50

I do the spoon thing but I put the spoon in hot water (as hot as you can stand) and then press it onto the bite. It stops the itching for about 4 hours. I also take Vitamin B co.strong tablets all summer and they stop midges biting me but not mosquitos - have had some cracking bites recently - sodding things.

I've recommended the hairdryer trick on here so many times over the years with loads of usernames that I'm in danger of outing myself Grin

Personally I'd not bother with anything else, the hairdryer is magic. Am surprised more people dont know about it really.

lightlypoached · 25/08/2018 10:50

@Saidthesharktotheflyingfish it is magic !
I bored everyone shitless on our recent holiday saying 'use the hairdryer!' Every time anyone looked remotely itchy. TBH I was probably more irritating then the Mosquitos by the end Grin

Jbck · 25/08/2018 10:58

Best thing ever is the Zapit gadget. Hairdryer helps if you can’t get hold of one.
I get giant welts like teaplates and marks can last for months, since I got the zapper, barely an itch, no welts and marks last a week at most.

Are you in France by any chance, seem to be awful there this year, sympathies OP
