Facial hair (women)

I was about 25/26 years old when I first noticed a few long, dark hairs on my chin. I got a tweezers and plucked them out.

Back then it was once every 2/3/4 weeks job. As time went on, I had to tweeze and pluck more often.

I'm 35 now and I have to do it 2/3 times a week now. I'm sitting after work with a cup of tea and I can feel fuss on my chin. I only did this job on Friday and Saturday morning last before a wedding.

Honestly, I'm sick of it. I can't go on like this. My life is far too busy. I have been caught out a few times forgetting or not getting time to do my chin and it looks dreadful.

Are there any long lasting solutions to facial hair on women? I read about laser therapy. I've even seen home laser therapy machines. I would be interested in a home laser machine. Does anyone have any experience with these.

That sounds a chore, I'm not sure if the home lasers are as good as salon ones, I'd be enquiringly into having it done professionally.

Gizmo79 · 21/08/2018 19:44

Shaving? It lasts a couple of weeks for women. And it doesn’t grow back darker/ stronger etc.

Racecardriver · 21/08/2018 19:46

A good friend of mine did it professionally. Some are still there but the vast majority are gone. She plucks like once a month if one pops up but that's it.

Corbby1 · 21/08/2018 19:53

I have exactly the same but have to epilate under my chin every single morning. I am going to get it lasered once I've had my baby, I've heard getting it done professionally gives amazing results. Please don't shave it though, that makes it alot worse. I know how crappy it can make you feel, hugs x

VickieCherry · 21/08/2018 19:59

Shaving does not last two weeks for women Hmm Hair grows back at more or or less the same rate for all humans. If you have thick hair you'll feel stubble after a day or two.

I've heard good things about home laser machines, OP. I'm always tempted for my tache, I get it threaded every two weeks but I hate the last few days before the next session - it really affects my confidence.

The only place I can see the sprouts under my chin is in the car. in the rear view mirror

I keep a pair to tweezers in the ash tray. Very productive while waiting at red lights.

loveka · 21/08/2018 20:25

The most amazing, life-changing thing is a
Tweezerman facial hair remover, a spring type thing you roll over the hair.

After tweezing every day for 30 years it is wonderful to not have to do it!

SpoonfulOfJam · 21/08/2018 22:22

Epiwand. From amazon.

Thanks for your replies. Sometimes when I'm stuck on time I shave but it ends up being horrific come evening with stubble. I could be out and about and stuck with getting home with no tweezers or mirror in my bag. Shaving definitely does not work for me.

I tried waxing last year with a facial wax kit I bought in boots but that didn't really work for me. I applied stripes to my chin, and pulled it of but so many hairs were left behind.

I'm apprehensive home getting laser done professionally because my understanding is that you have to allow some growth of the hairs before the treatment. I'd be terrified if I had an appointment scheduled and allowing my boyfriend to see my chin like that. That's why I think home laser might work. Machines are expensive though. I will continue tweezing for now and I will keep an eye out online over the next few more weeks to see if any deals come up. I could also wait for black Friday in November.

The tweezerman thing isn't shaving. It plucks out hairs.

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 22/08/2018 20:34

You don’t need to let it regrow, you just can’t pluck it, so shaving between treatments is fine.

I had a course of IPL a few years ago and it changed my life. Honestly - beg borrow or steal, but get it done.

I’ve since bought a home machine and it works perfectly - did my armpits and now have no hair there at all after just 3 or 4 goes! It takes moments and then you never have to worry about it again.

I have the SmoothSkin Gold machine which was recommended to me on here by someone - it was on an offer at about £250 when I got it, but I would have paid double for it knowing how amazing it is. I’ve also been doing my legs and to be able to go on holiday and not worry about packing a razor was a revelation. My DP gives me foot rubs and I was always self conscious about my furry ankles, but now they’re hair free I can relax and enjoy it!

It really is an investment in your confidence. I used to cover my mouth when I talked in daylight as I didn’t want people’s attention drawn to my face. I was always checking the car mirror for chin hairs or stray moustache hairs. Plucking while DP was in the bathroom and hoping I didn’t get caught doing it. It was horrid. I feel so much happier now. No exaggeration when I say it changed my life.

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 22/08/2018 20:37

And I did try the epistick/spring thing - it’s easier than tweezing but you’re still having to think about it. With IPL even from the first treatment I noticed a difference. And now it’s not even on my radar - imagine that!

anunseemlylovefordustin · 22/08/2018 20:50

I had a course of IPL on my top lip about ten years ago and it worked like a charm. I bought a Philips lumea a couple of years ago and have been doing my armpits and chin (albeit a bit sporadically) with the same results. Try IPL!

'plucking while DP was in the bathroom and hoping I didn't get caught doing it'

That is so funny and you are telling my tale here too. Thankfully I don't live with my fiance just yet but I've been away many times with him in overnight hotel stays and a holiday more recently. I found myself locked in the bathroom a few times with a mirror and tweezers.

With IPL,

Are results permanent? Does the hair grow back? If it grows back, would the dark hairs be less and light in colour?

OP posts:
BWrose · 22/08/2018 21:01

I don't care about the hair on my legs or underarms or bikini line. I walk around in the summer time with shorts and hairy legs no problem. I only shaved my legs twice this summer before a holiday and before a wedding.

It's the facial hair that annoys me and I find troublesome with a busy and hectic schedule and so many demands on my back.

Lidlfix · 22/08/2018 21:15

What is your skin and hair colour? My Dsis bought the Lidl IPL and it's working well for her. She is the ideal pale skin dark hair combo that it tends to work best on.

She hated having to shave first and banished her DH whilst she "foamed up".

EyUpOurKid · 22/08/2018 21:48

I had my chin, tip lip and eyebrows threaded today and am loving the results so far. So much better than tweezing or waxing. I'm a convert, and it took minutes. Slightly uncomfortable briefly but I'm genuinely fuzz free, it's amazing.

itsbetterthanabox · 22/08/2018 21:54

What's your skin colour and the colour of the hairs?
Laser only works well on certain combos.
Electrolysis is another option.
I'd just get it threaded though if I were you.

BWrose · 22/08/2018 22:06

I would be an ideal candidate for laser from what I read online. Im fair skin and the hairs that are annoying me are black. There's some fair hair too but that's few and less noticable. It's the black hair on my chin that I hate.

ViserionTheDragon · 22/08/2018 22:25

I would get a Phillips Lumea, it's pretty good for small areas and you can do it in your own time at home.
