Exfoliator recommendations for in-grown hair prone legs/bikini line

I have always been very prone to in-grown hairs, esp on legs, but also on bikini line etc. I feel like I've tried all the usual scrubbers, loofas etc, but I'm either doing something wrong (too often/not often enough!?), I've missed something, or I'm just doomed to have awful skin?!

Can anyone recommend anything?

For context, I'm late 30s, fairly hairy, dryish skin (sounding hot!! Grin)

I pay a bit more for a really skilled waxing lady who uses Lycon wax and this seems to help with staving off ingrowns. My skin hates waxing or threading - I get large histamine lumps on my face from threading and used to get horrible ingrown rash on my bikini line.

I also use Lycon anti ingrown spray which seems to work OK but mainly, make sure your waxer is good and uses good quality hot wax.

I always recommend 'tend skin' as it's the only thing that works. I used it years ago to get rid of ingrown hairs after a bad was. I use it now after epilating maybe once or twice a month. Check out the reviews on Amazon.

Do you use anything with salicylic acid or another BHA in on your face? I have face pads with salicylic acid which I use on my legs when I get ingrown hairs/blockages etc.

Ooh thanks, some new things to try!

As it’s the easiest to get hold of I’m going to try the acid wipe face things on my legs (well one leg to make it scientific) ;)

Should I avoid physical exfoliators for a bit?

Glycolic acid products enable the hair to grow straight and through the skin instead of into it. Salicylic products never helped me much with ingrowing hairs.
In addition to gentle exfoliation (I like those scrubby glove things, like knitted nylon gloves if you know what I mean?) make sure your skin is well-moisturised.
How are you depliating? I have thoughts on different kinds of epilators if anyone is interested. Smile

Oh and are you getting infected ingrowing hairs (they grow in a circle or a hairpin bend into the skin, are raised with pus etc) or the hairs that grow straight and visible under the transparent top layer of skin?

ShirleyPhallus · 21/08/2018 18:34

the hairs that grow straight and visible under the transparent top layer of skin?

This is exactly what I get. Any ideas how to get rid?

Would you consider a Lumea to prevent regrowth?

littledinaco · 21/08/2018 18:37

If you can find a really good waxer it can make a difference. I tried tend skin but it didn’t work for me and it’s incredibly drying.

I switched to soap (after seeing the soap threads on here) for other reasons and I’ve hardly had any ingrown hairs since and it’s sorted out all other skin problems too. Maybe worth a try.

ShirleyPhallus (excellent name) - glycolic should sort that, and some gentle exfoliation. Are you using an epilator?

NoArmaniNoPunani · 21/08/2018 19:02

I use PFB vanish
