Invisalign for severe overcrowding?

GetBackInTime · 19/08/2018 22:10

I am desperate to have my teeth straightened. I think about my teeth all the time, I hate smiling or laughing and hide from cameras, the few photos in existence of me, I look miserable.

My lower teeth are extremely overcrowded to the point my gum line has receded very far down. My top 4 teeth are also squint and protruding.

Can Invisalign treat quite severe overcrowding or is it possible to have metal braces on the bottom and Invisalign on the top? My bottom teeth actually aren’t visible at all when I smile so I would happily have traditional braces there.

Does anyone have any similar experience?

No sassy, I never got to the point where I forget they're there but they don't bother me as much, especially now that I'm seeing real progress.

willworkforfood yes! I forgot about those little attachments. Also i think the whole idea of them being 'invisible' is a load of crap. People were always doing a double take and asking "what's on your teeth?" At least with traditional braces they're like oh you have braces.

I had Invisalign last year at a fantastic dentist in West London - www.idental-london.com/invisalign-clear-braces-shepherds-bush.html - so pleased with the results.

If it’s ‘invisible’ braces you are after then perhaps consider lingual braces? They are fixed braces but attached to the lingual /tongue side of the teeth as opposed to the front.

I would be interested to know if OP got them?

Even if you need to have metal traintracks it's not so bad. Most people you meet don't seem bothered and never mention them (though you might get a few double takes at first!). The time goes fast and it's worth it to have lovely straight teeth.

I had train tracks as an adult because some of my teeth were pushed forward and others folding in. Now I have a permanent retainer, just a wire on the back of my teeth to hold them in place, so they can't move back.

I had invisalign for about 16 months on fortnightly wear. So a lot of trays. Really pleased with the results and my teeth are so much better now. With respect to overcrowding, filing helps, but of course whatever braces are used, space for movement is needed for extraction may be necessary.

My specialist was very good and the care was great. The before and after videos they create give you a very good idea of what they will achieve. A good specialist should know the best method though.

I'm very glad that I went to a good specialist. I would never go my usual dentist for braces. Whilst many dentists have some knowledge I'm not convinced that many specialise in straightening really.

@SaxxedtotheMax

I was the OP and it turned out I wasn’t suitable for Invisalign, I now have train tracks and I’m 1 month in to roughly 2 years of treatment. I HATE them but hopefully it will be worth it in the end.

SaxxedtotheMax · 28/07/2019 11:15

Hi Bierplease,

I had train tracks for 2 years. Dont hate them! They are your future.

You will be so so grateful that you did it. My teeth were absolutely awful before I did it.

Keep going & dont forget to take some photos as you go.

Its great to look back. Ive changed my whole wardrobe & hair now as well. I suppose I try not to hide as much now.

Good luck Grin

Completely agree that you should take pictures! I was so ashamed of my teeth I didn't have any photos of them from before, but now I wish I did, just so I could marvel over the change.

You can also partially bite into a piece of cheese so you can see the position of your teeth and how they are moving. Obviously then eat the cheese; waste not, want not. Wink
